I agree, gold is spot on, though I'd add some depth to red. It's to flat to my taste :)

Cheers everyone :)

My store is thinking about running a small LotR tournament soon, 400pts, a good and an evil force :)

For my Dead of Dunharrow I was thinking this:

King of the Dead
12 Warriors
4 Riders
1 warrior with Banner.
400pts spot on :)

For my Easterlings I was thinking:

Amdur
Dragon knight
8 Spear/sheild
9 handweapon/shield
1 handweapon/shield with horn
6 archers/spears

399pts :)

I don't see anything wrong with those two armies, but then again I'm not a gaming expert...

Good luck 8)

Played a game with the Dead of Dunharrow today, minus 1 rider.

Opponent had moria goblins, lots of gobbos, a drum, a captain and a ringwraith (I forget which.. had 20will pts)

Minced my way through his army, his low courage being his downfall :) He spent too long protecting his drum from my riders and so didn't have the numbers to fight the warriors, king and banner. His ringwraith used too many spells I felt.. kept trying to blackdart random warriors.. and failing. Then I kept trapping him in combat reducing his will each turn :)

I think I lost about 4 warriors and 1 rider :)

Your painting is really good and sounds like your a good gamer as well, although yes, Black Darting enemy warriors really isn't the way to go when you are using a Ringwraith.

Played another game with the Dead today, against an Uruk hai scout force.
Scenario was to Kill each others leader :)

Game was going well, I managed to break his army, and we had our leaders in an epic battle for a few rounds until my King managed to fail all three fate tests in a row.. and then take a wound. Stupid king with 1 attack

The banner is an excellent tool in the army, making me win plenty of combats despite being outnumbered!

Taa :)

Have painted about 8 of the easterlings with hand weapons this week,
Haven't been able to take pictures yet, had some pc troubles! Will take some after dinner :)

I've also traded my small moria goblin army for a wood elf army, so if anyone has any good tacticas that'd be helpful!

The 350 list for the WE's would be this I think:

Either Legolas or Thranduil
10 spearmen
10 bowmen
10 with throwing daggers.

30 seems like a strong number at 350, I know my Easterlings suffer from the low number count...
All the shooting in the WE army seems good, plsu I've realised the majority of players at the store like to keep their force in a big block, the WE's will be able to dance around this I hope, throwing daggers and then retreating into the woods.

Amdur is now based:

been messing with the 350 list, going for just a captain with shield and then adding 2 more hw's and 10 archers, 6 of them with spears :)

Here's a poor army shot:
Image

and two captains I made, one is a cheapo 50pt one with nothing, the other is the one I needed with shield :)

Looks good, but the armor seems a bit dark. I would suggest giving it at least one more highlight. Other than that they look fantastic!

Nice painting, though the red looks a little orange in some of the pics. For your wood elves, i would throw in a couple sentinels, give the bowmen spears, and the guys with throwing weapons elven blades. Something like this:

Legolas
12 spearmen
6 bowmen with spear
5 with throwing dagger and elf balde
2 sentinels

It'll give you less guys, but more flexibility.

Will take some better photos shortly :)

Hmm.. I'm not a fan of elven blades.. especially when I have to pay for them.. the -1 doesn't seem good when I'm D3.. when I lose the fight the elf will probably die  I guess if they gang up on one model they'll do better.

My aim for Lotr is to have two good and two evil armies, all at least at 350pts :)

I purchased my second army today :)

Corsairs!
My original army plan was a captain, the fleetmaster and the contents of 1 box of corsairs, came out at 350 :) Played this list against a dwarf ranger arm led by Dain, who I avoided all game XD I won :)

Been playing with the list, and converted up my archers into crossbows using some Warhammer dark elf parts I had :)

So the new list is two captains with crossbows, shields (yeah they don't get the bonus, but still get the shielding rule, which'll be good when I can shield the enemy away and then throwing weapons them to death  )
8 crossbow dudes, one with a horn
8 spear men
8 shields

So have 10 crossbows in total, and then 16 guys with throwing weapons (18 with captains). 4pts of might.

Got my Wood Elves last week :)

The 350pt list I've been using is:

Stormcaller
10 elven blades with throwing weapons
10 spears with throwing weapons
10 bows

Stormcaller is an awesome hero, natures wrath and the wind power are freaking awesome.

Not sure on the paint scheme for them yet.

wow! i love your painting on those easterlings. very impressive stuff, particularly the red. can't wait to see them all finished!!
the captain conversions also look great. a lot of conversions can end up looking very awkward, but you've pulled it off very well both times.

Edit: the captain without the shield is in a perfect position for a hornblower (if easterlings have them. not sure). if you get more eaterlings you should try that!

Edit Edit: just noticed you already have a hornblower. anyway, keep up the good work!
