Thanks for the comments guys. i will get to adding some detail to the helmet in a bit, also i like the idea of using the green stuff instead of drilling into my figure, I'll try that. I got some pro-create recently and have tried it out, for now all I have is a troll face. It doesn't look like the GW one, its not really suppose to but it does borrow some elements.

The rest of the troll has also made progress, but i havent had the opportunity to photograph him. I'll post that as well soon. Sorry for the bad quality of the pics, but I didnt have the patience to redo them. Anyway please let me know what you think and be honest (i''ve got thick skin I can take the criticism) I really would like to improve.

I'm not much better but I would highly suggest you use the blunt end of your sculpting tool, or any small smooth curved object, to smoothen out the putty once you've finished shaping it. Just gently wipe it across the putty and pressing here and there until it smoothens out a little, you will want it to be quite wet.

thanks guys. Yeah i have an issue with getting the putty smooth after I have finished shaping it, I always try to but somehow I can never quite get it there. I guess its a practice thing. *sigh*

Thanks for the comments! :-D

Anyway I gots a new update. First:

Image

Image

I know the area under the neck is screwed up but that part, along with the trolls right foot (left when looking at him) is far from done and I was unhappy with those parts so i went ahead and just cut them off and am now slowly redoing them.

Next:
Image

Image

Thats the beginnings of my ent for this months painting challenge. Though I am not particularly pleased with the way he is coming out. I was trying to make it look like the whole leg was the roots, as he is suppose to be a yew tree, but im not sure it looks good and cant really think of another way to do it. I was just rolling sausages and then twisting to get a more gnarled look.

Anyway Criticisms and Comments are welcome as always.

Looking good! There are a few areas on the troll which look slightly rough, but overall it's still great. I really like the Ent too! :)

Nice. Would I be right in assuming that you have used this guide:

http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/kb.php ... icle&k=478

I think the horse's hooves could do with a coat of black, and perhaps a few adjustments to various parts, like the bits of grey that have got onto some straps. Pehars also try to do the horse's eyes, even if they are just black... looks a little creepy without them. But still very good overall.

Thanks for the comments !

@ Blue Dragon, yeah i did see that guide and it was where i got the idea of painting the horse grey, however the guide was not in fornt of me while i was painting. Also, the horse does have eyes, but i guess i made them too small, ill try to fix that.

@ DainIronfoot yeah i did put highlights on, even a couple glazes (at least attempts at them, I found getting the consistency of the paint right was difficult), but no washes as I dont have any at the moment, though i did make a black 'wash' type thing to put over the silver on the horses head.

Cheers

Ahh I see them now... but they look like you've painted them white. Hving spent a lot of time around horses, I can say with confidence that you won't find a horse with white eyes. Their iris takes up the whole eye, in similar fashion to the eyes of a cat or dog.

I feel that the hair and skin of the horse contrast each other too much. In addition to adding some more shading I would also suggest you either make the skin colour a little warmer, a few glazed of brown should do the trick and not change the colour too much, or make the hair paler.

Thanks guys!

@ DLEL I think I will add a couple of glazes of brown as you advised as I do agree with you about the contrast, but wasn't sure what to do . Thanks. :)

@ King Ellesar, yeah I think painting the hooves black is a good idea, i dunno what i was thinking painting them white to be honest.

@ Blue Dragon, see unfortunately I havent spend much time around horses so i was unaware, though I guess i could have looked up a photo on this wonderful thing called the internet, but I didn't so thanks, I will also fix the eye.

Right now I'm working on the rider, but also sculpting my ent, so its slow going. Hope to have an update son, with an improved horse and a near complete rider. :D

So i have started on another horse. I was doing the rider for the first one, but then realized that I didnt have a color scheme and decided to switch to another horse for the moment. Anyway this is still a WIP but let me know what you think.

hey, im back again,
this time i have saruman, i tired his face first. I think its the first face i ever properly painted. Needless to say it was hard and now that i have a picture i see some flaws that i didnt see when painting. His eyes were definitely the hardest part though.
Image

Oh the staff and his hair/beard are not done yet. Hair is gonna get a lst highlight of pure white. And now after seeing his hands a face close up i am going to do a bit more work there.

C&C welcome.

Sarumans skin needs to be a bit lighter. Its too dark.

Thats just my opinion.

The brown horse looks good. :)
