Unless you're planning to do a full-scale attack on Helm's Deep with 10 000 of them! Just 9 800 Uruk's to go!

For my Deeping Wall, I cut out squares of thin card and glued them on. Laborious and time consuming.
I am busy making Amon Sul, and have skim coated the whole model in plaster. Then I'll etch the brick effect in with a nail.
No dount that will be laborious and time consuming too! ;-)

Best of luck

Right well here's your brickwork people.. I took a bit of a vacation from the hobby but then decided to get right back into it & hit the bricks. Took less time than I expected. The brickwork isn't finished but tell me what you think.

I just carved them in with a pen.. Once I've done the bricks my next stage is to give it a wash to bring out the cracks in the bricks

Well I've done some work on the old thing.. I finished up the bricks (what fun I had) & started painting. I took donuthare's painting scheme & it's turned out pretty good. Any criticism is very welcome on how I can improve for the painting, or just in general. Next stage is to add some gravel/sand texture to some area's on the castle & get a crack on the mountain.

Well I painted using your method.. Painted it all black first of all, then added a light brush of grey & then a touch of white.. Used a waterdown green to create the effect of the dampness of the castle in some areas. The GW Helm's Deep wasn't great I agree.. Some parts of the castle are way out of proportion for example the hornburgh is very small etc.. tho they did finish it well with the paints/gravel

P.S. Hope the Mountain post i sent you helped

Thank's for all the great comments guys.. Just one quick question.

What colour should i do the mountain? darker/same/lighter than the castle itself? because I don't want it to look exactly the same.

The painting is very good and it looks very realistic.
As for the mountainside. Carved stone, in this case the fortress, has a "stronger" colour than uncarved stone because it hasn't been exposed to the elements for as long. In general carved stone has a lighter colour but if the stone is naturally quite dark the uncarved stone is lighter because the dust and various other debris are tone down the colour. Based on how you have painted the fortress I would say that the mountain should be darker.
But it also depends on the effect you want to achieve. If the fortress is lighter it will look more like it is sticking our of he mountain. If the mountain is darker it won't seam to stick out as much.
