Framecaplib is a great source of stills from the movies so you might want to check through those for inspiration - it really depends on what state you wish to show the Palantir in - inert, 'dialling' or 'Hello, you are through to The Eye':

The first probably . Glossy with the appearance of clouds beneath the surface.

Great painting, but shouldn't Saruman have a white beard, originally being Saruman the white and all?

For the palantir, why not try painting the eye of Sauron on it then coating it with gloss to give that shiny appearance it has ?

Not a big fan of the eye. I try to keep everything relatively generic. The gloss is a good idea though.

Here's a quick snap of some wargs I'm working on. Wargs bought August 2005, painted sometime in 2008, riders finally painted today, 2013. My ex was pretty annoyed at me that I insisted on a trip to town to get them in BGIME, on the day we were going on holidays. I digress

Those are a dark and savage looking lot - I like the variations in the warg pelts. I too acquired wargs en masse from BGIME as it was the best bargain available.

Was not available here. I spent way to much on metal. I never painted my riders. I used them as wargs.

They look good. 8)

Than ks for the comments. I'll put up some more detailed pictures in better light once they're done.

Hope I never see her again, she spent her hard earned part time student money on a Mumakil for my birthday. Still not finished. Must be 8 years now ha.

Anyhow, tried some glazing and proper blending tonight. I'd been a bit lazy with the blending of late, just buying loads of paints and not bothering to mix colours. Happy enough with the results

Nice work Gene, i look forward to seeing more!

I'm the same when it comes to blending, too much to do to stop and mix!

I'm a paint, wash, highlight NEXT!! sort of guy.

But when you do take the time it is worth it.

You are making me want to paint my wargs that have been sitting in a box for way too long.. I will finish one day if i stop buying new miniatures.

Like I said, I bought them in 2005. It happens!

Thanks for the comments.

Here's Bret in all his finished glory. The model is an absolute dog, I probably wouldn't have bought it if i could see the face in the packaging, but it turned out ok. I like the pose. Might tone down the contrast in the face.

You could smooth out the face by getting you lightest colour, now thin it a lot. Have a small amount on your brush and use a steady stroke from the dark area to the lightest. It's better if your brush is used more on the flat than the point. Do this gradually and you will slowly blend in the transition.

You could put a Hobbit or Dwarf under his hand and do a funny caption competition?

Or angle the arm down slightly and twist the hand so the palm faces you. Now stick Galadriel next to him....
