The full columns are balancing the ruin section. I have decided to use half columns so that there will be some more playing room on the ruin.

I glued up the first sections of Balin's tomb now that I have the rune mold. I won't have time to cast until next week.

I will need to cast more blocks to rubble the left side.
The Woodland Scenic rock mold seems to be the correct shape.

Did any one have an opinion on this? They would work better in a game than they would look on the model :roll:

Image Goblins would be able to make the jump and still have a place to stand on the model. I need to puzzle out a way for it to look better. :roll:

No way to make something between it? From ocher colours slightly fading into the colours of the rest of the set?

It is hard to explain feels right. I want it to be both natural and playable.

I want the look of a natural rock formation but I would like the figures to be able to stand on it.

The unpainted rock face is more stylized than natural but 10 goblins will fit on it with out falling. I am afraid it will look silly. I will cast some rock faces this week end.I will play around with it. Which one looks/feels like it looks better to you?

The leaning tower of Moria :lol: I can't decide which one tof the above to add to the top :? I have already pulled the goblin perches off once.

The stylised rock that 10 goblins will perch on. I think the stone slabs need removing and leaving as a bare rock floor. You could have this bare rock slightly uneven to give a realistic rock look and still be able to have it playable.
As for the top of the leaning tower - does it need one ? Are you trying to fit too much in ?
If anything I would go for the left hand floor with steps at the end. This floor would be on the leaning tower at the point where the goblin is stretching backwards with the two rocks flets removed.
It may not be to your fancy but I hope this helps.

You can see at the top of the ruin goblins could jump to the Balin's stair. The scenerio might work better if I could place models there.

The lower stair also leads to the Bridge that is key to the defense of Moria.
I plan for Balin to fight his way in from there and goblins to pursue the Fellowship in that direction. I was lucky to find these detailed photos.

Been absent a while, sorry for not commenting earlier. Your progress looks great! When in doubt, I always go for the Weta environments for guiding and inspiration. I did not put as much emphasis on the rock above the "goblin perches" - on my terrain it's just a slightly textured straight wall of foam. The original looks almost as if there's a natural cave there, blown open on the side. Perhaps a small natural cliff on the very top of your "Leaning tower"?

Similarly, I simplified the second complex stair/causeway thingy leading to the arch in the "column wall" - since the Fellowship did not use this bit; it had no immediate gaming need for our campaign (plus it would have effectively doubled the size of the terrain). I will probably do a background image of the "column wall" to be used when I take battle report photos. On my terrain, the causeway leading to the Second Hall is also much shorter and on your last photo, would point directly downwards where the Fellowship stair ends. My Second Hall is probably much smaller than the Weta version, too - that part was hard to see in the environment since it is fully domed by the rock roof.

Don't forget to add rubble - that really dresses the set and says "ruined mine".

I only have a photo to work with. It is very hard to see. You pin pointed the area I was struggling with. I looked back at your model and discovered a solution.

If I put the leaning tower on a 2" riser Goblins will be able to jump from the roof or second floor of the ruin to the stair. The cave will be on the back drop. I can add a small shelf just behind where the Chaos archer is standing near the clamp. Room for figures and a solution to the leaning tower too. The white low density foam is causing a structural problem. I need to replace it anyway

Haven't really given the gameplay much thought, as we have never played on that terrain yet. I'll be happy to dig up my Second Hall terrain piece from storage once you are starting to design yours.

The Escape from Dwarrowdelk was my nephew Joe's favorite scenario when he stayed with me during his mothers last deployment.

I have had some time to think about it. I have not tried to design a game scenerio in the second Hall. I am not sure how large to make it.

Bottomless pits are well bottomless 8)
It should fit on a 2'X 2'X 2'with out much problem. I should be able to start casting for the next Hall and Bridge next week.
