My old WIP was too long so I started a new.

I met several of my Web friends at Gen Con. We made some mold swaps. It was really fun to meet them in person. I have been casting like mad from a set of molds that I borrowed.

Image

I will have a lot of sanding and fitting to do but I have begun to lay out parts.

Image

I am going to use the OOP E Bob figure for the buttresses. The center floor section will need to be complete before I can assemble the outer ring floor parts.

Image

Idea for a throne room for the old 1980's figures.

Where'd you get those statues? And did you cast copies of them or are they all original plastic?

Hirst Arts molds - a great sinkhole for time and money! Every time I think I have all the molds I need, I think of another project that requires just one more mold.

Yep, do that too. HA molds are great for gifts though, easy to ask for.

Harfoot's Photos are proving very helpful. The Tomes of Wisdom articles are also proving very valuable. Dagorlad's artical kb.php?a=53 and Geboom's kb.php?a=20

Image

Dagorlad's article inspired me to add the subterranean cave entrance to both models. I am taking advantage of the nice weather to cast.

I have cut out the base and will begin fitting and sanding.

Image

The base is made from MDF. I cut it out with a jig saw and circle cutter. I need to trim a bit with a drum sander. It is better to cut a little large than too small.
The cutter wabbled in the nail hole. My fault I don't use it often. I will fix it tomorrow.

I learn my lesson working on Balin's Stair. The base need to be ready first.

Image

The floor base is on a 1/2" MDF base so that the Drop in LED fire pit will fit. I will use it when the orcs occupy it is some scenarios.Otherwise the fire pit will be in the cave. The small MDF blocks are spacers for the stairs.

Image

I put the next components on two rings. The stairs down to the cave will be cut into the top ring. The two rings fit on rizers around the floor. I will be able to save bricks and cut down on fitting this way.

The circle cutter I have does not fit my new jig saw. The old one is hard to get blades for. I should have put a cutter in the router but I didn't think of it till I was done.

I am not going to spend a lot of time with filler at this stage so much is going to be covered with structure and broken stone. I drilled the hole for the battery box all the way through. The battery box was metric so my bit was 10/100 to small. I trimmed it but decided to change batteries from the bottom.

Image

I am going to make a few more custom molds. I need 32 more of the columns. I am going to cast a few more and put 8 on the custom mold.

I could also cast some of the columns from the gothic detail mold instead of the ruined tower mold. The other detail column is from the cavern detail floor mold. I am not sure what looks best. Ideas?

Love the way you have done the rubble etc at the bottom of the column, so authentic and makes a huge difference to this diorama.

That is the official promotional set. I am using it as a guide. One of my casting friends has the mold now. I am posting WIP photos with the guide so he can build his at the same time.
