Brick by brick is pretty good, these bricks are very accurate and highly detailed. The casting process is what really slows you down. I can cast a bunch of bricks over three days to a week (including drying time) and use them all in a build within a couple of hours!!

Thanks. Is the plaster pretty tough? Do you have any trouble with air bubbles? I have only used hydrostone, which is great but costs about $A30 per 5 kg.

Yeah, casting is time consuming. I'm thinking of getting multiples of the same mould for my next big project to speed up the process.

I do get some air bubbles, but you can minimise those with the wet water method (shown on Hirst arts). Also being careful when mixing and pouring helps. I dont stress to much about the air bubbles though, if they are there I flatten them out and they add a distressed look to the bricks. Anything grosly miss-cast goes in the bin. I pay about $30 NZD including delivery for my plaster, 20kg bag at a time.

Sure do. Within walking distance and less than 30 minutes drive from LotR sets such as Isengard, Rivendell, Minas Trirth/Hemls deep and the Anduin river scenes.

Sorry to open this thread - but I am considering something similar...
1. How did you get on with the building?
2. Which molds would you recommend
3. Where did you get your measurements/plans from

Any assistance would be great as I can see this as quite a challenge.

Octagon Tower Mold #63

Dragon's Inn Mold #51
Floor Tiles Various Sizes

Gothic Dungeon Builder #45

I do quite a bit of casting. You will find you will need #45 for detail parts for Gondor. I feel you should get #51 instead of the #40 basic block mold because #51 has a block for doors and windows and the roof peak block. Basic Block Mold #40 has just blocks. I like #60 because of the stairs.
I also find #200 very valuable.
