It's probably a sign you don't post enough in a topic when you can't even find your last updated to your WIP. I don't get time to paint as often as I like and have even less time to get a pic off from there...but I have been making progress on both fronts lately so I figured I'd spin up a fresh one

My attention lately has been to get my Haradrim army playable. For the last couple years most of my games as Evil have been played using my Dol Guldur force and I wanted some variety. I already have one Mumuk mostly finished (two more in boxes are going to be waiting a while), and had about 30 Haradrim and a dozen or so Serpent Raiders cleaned and base-coated black from a while ago. So I figured quickest would be wrap up some warriors to man the Mumuk and provide ground troops, then follow that up with some cavalry and finally finish off the ground troops. And so...

As always, I usually keep my personal site updated as frequently as I have time: http://www.TacticsInMiniature.com

I have my Haradrim infantry mostly complete at this time. I'm going to do a little highlighting and still need to paint up the jewels and the base. But for the most part this batch is done. As I mentioned, they are primarily crew for the Mumuk which is why you see a lot of archers in there. I will have a few spearmen up there as well when I decide to include repelling lines but otherwise it's mostly going to be bowmen.

Here's a closeup of one of the models:

And a few group shots...no organization to these:

I'm also working on a custom Mumuk driver:

Further descriptions of each and some more pics are on my site. I'll see if I can get something current of the Mumuk up here soon as well.

Looks great! 8)
I love the contrast beween the dull yellow an the brighter purple :yay:
some of the purple looks a bit shiny, might I recomend a matt varnish? Works wonders that stuff does :)

well done :yay:

Thanks for the comments!

Yep...when all painting is done I dull my models down significantly. If I actually want anything shinny I re-highlight. The shinny look is actually one reason I don't often take WIP shots...it just bugs me so much.

I elected purple as my main 'color' to tie the army together and help stand out from typical Serpent Horde forces. Other than that though I wanted to mostly stick with earth / sand tones.

:-D That's exactly what I'm doing with my haradrim. Yours are looking good, hopefully you can keep us updated with your progress.

@theavenger001: yes. I saw yours and liked them as well. Your skin tones are very close to what I am working on for the Mauhad Beastmaster and your jewel work is inspiring...it's the bar I'm aiming for when I decorate mine.

@GtW: Actually yes. In one of my last WotR games I had a couple stands of tigers played with the Wild Warg profile. They were cheap plastics from the toy store's 'Wild Kingdom' area (lots of animals in bins for a dollar or two each). White tiger as a Warg Chief. They were a little large for the bases but actually looked decent in scale to the Haradrim when you look at a pic of a real full grown tiger next to a man.

I don't want to be a smartass.. but tigers don't belong into the desert.. they are jungle/grassland/taiga/swampland inhabitants across the asian continent.. the Mahud on the other hand are African-inspired.. so you could use lions.. or give some wargs an actual hyena painting (guess THAT would look really cool!) Quite a lot of possibilities.. but please no tigers..! Next step is is dolphins with corsairs? ^^

Not a smartass comment at all. Keep in mind the Mumuk isn't likely to be a desert dweller itself though.

The background he was referring to was something I posted a long time back. I was intending my Haradrim to be from a rich trading city in Far Harad, perhaps near a large bay or river cutting inland around Umbar. Closer to the deserts of Near Harad but on the rich trade routes into the jungles of Far Harad. As many mideastern cities of our history it could be a trade port for many exotic species not from the original area and historically rich kings in such areas had been known to collect such species.

The Mumuk obviously do not come from a desert climate themselves, but are brought up from the grasslands nearer the jungles most likely. Similarly I was looking for some 'big cats' to fill a role in my Harad WotR army without using the original models for the specific profiles. Lions, jaguars and tigers were all things I was looking for as a stand in for either Wild Warg or Giant Spider profiles. I just happened to find cheap tigers more easily and at a good price.

Out of context though I understand your point completely.

Apparently there is a jungle in far Harad, and who says tigers couldn't live there?

Ok, fair point Beowulf. I didnt want to say that you can't use tigers at all.. and with the background story you have there it makes much more sense now lore-wise. :)

I hope I'm not acting like a smartass, but as far as I know, as we're talking about fantasy, you could even place polar bears in the desert. Not that realistic, but I could live with it as, again, it's fantasy. But, I agree with Telchar about the tigers being perfectly themed when you're having a Far Harad army. But, of course, some people'll start to mistake your army for a WH Fantasy one.

Of course it's fantasy.. but the whole "Tolkien-universe" is a fantasy with incredible depth and some kind of lore.
Of course you vcould even use sabertooths or Haradrim riding on giant scarabs.. but I'm some kind of purist when it comes to such things.. Tolkien wanted to create realistic worlds and myths with his works.
I was just telling what i think anyway and it's just some advice from a fan. No rules or laws or anything :)

If you include some of the official GW models like Gulavhar and Dwellers in the Dark people can mistake it for a WFB army. What Beowulf has come up with is better Tolkein-mythos themed than a lot of what GW invented.

 You're right. What'd GW be trying to make for us with these new monsters? Minor Balroglike creatures?
