Nice Ent Josh! it looks great as it is, but I also think you do need to create some shading on it 8)

Thanks for the comments guys!

My Morannon Orc Commanders are now mostly done. They just need a few touch ups here and there.

They're looking really great, I love that brown hooded cloak, really well done on that!

My only criticism is I think the decapitated head needs to look more...dead. Maybe add some gore, and add a gray-ish tint to the skin, to make it look dead and pallid?

Other than that, excellent work. I look forward to seeing more painting from you :)

I like them, some of your best work yet. Though my only criticism is the same, that dead head seems a bit too contrasty to the dark orcs. I also think that some re-working is needed there, though as I have not painted a dead head yet I don't know how you would go about it. I would also advise some blood streaks on the axe the captain is carrying, if he just cut off the head the axe would not be spotless! Don't over-do it though, less is more when applying blood. 8)
*edit* I think that the hair on the dead head is also a little dark and that is what is contrasting with the light skin and making me not like it. I think a brown more like the shamans cloak would be nice for the hair to be a nice transition between the dark orc and the light skin. 8)

I'd make the decapitated head a bit more pale as there wouldn't be much if any blood left in it...other than that, these guys look great Josh!! :yay:

nice job! Did you add a brighter layer of gray to the gray/black cloth? Or did you just get some better lighting, because before I couldn't see the gray at all, but it looks nice though 8) .

Today I bought Arvedui and Malbeth, the beginigs of my Arnor army! I've wanted these two mini's for a long time, they're two of my favorites. :)

I don't have any pictures as of yet, as I've only done some work on bases so far. I'm actually having some trouble with the bases, as I can't decide whether or not I want to try having the bases paved with stones and then with sand placed over some areas, or just a more traditional sand base. I tried a test run on the paved base, and tbh it did not look very good. I'll add some pictures of the paved base later for you guys to judge. Any thoughts? Help would be greatly appreaciated. :)

In my personal experiance, I would stick to the more simple sand base, as it can be pretty difficult to create the desired effect with a more complicated base.

Just my opinion though....

Go for the paved base. Its what you want after all.

I think I would go for a mixture of paving and sand/rubble on each base.
It would fit nicely with the story of Arnor (the once noble kingdom now falling to ruins...) and look a bit more unique than the usual sand bases.
Almost like a metaphorical symbol for Arnor's struggle on each base...

:)

Pavement with some sand and undergrowth would look better. I have tried it but I agree that it is very hard to get right. If you do it though, it will be very fitting and look very good.
