Post subject: | Fell Wargs & Narzug or Wild Wargs & Chieftain? |
I'm looking at including a cheap fast attack wing in my army, and I'm trying to decide which of the two are preferable between a unit of ten Fell Wargs & Narzug or ten Wild Wargs & Warg Chieftain. Narzug has the power to spam out the might, and his fell wargs get a slight charge bonus rule, but the warg chieftain seems to be considerably better for squaring off against most heroes he runs into (at Fight 5 and strength 6). How useful does anyone usually find the fell warg's special ability? And given a choice between the two combinations above, which would you take? |

Well unless I'm inccorect Narzugs might can't be used for heroic moves with the wargs can it?? I thought for wargs it has to be certain models. I may be thinking of something else. It really depends on the rest of your army. |

I've not used Narzug yet, but for fluff reasons it would feel weird to have an Orc leading a pack of Wargs. If there were some other Orcs in the warband, I don't think it would feel so bad. I have used Warg Chieftains, and as you say, they can handle themselves in a fight. My vote would be for the Chieftain and pack. |

At the moment, it would have to be one of these two combinations. List 1 Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 4 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield 1 Morannon orc with Spear -130 points Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 4 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield 1 Morannon orc with Spear -130 points Witch King w/Fell Beast, 2 Might, 1 Fate 10 Orc Trackers -185 points Wild Warg Chieftain 10 Wild Wargs -155 points List 2 Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 5 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield -131 points Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 5 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield -131 points Narzug w/Fell Warg 8 Fell Wargs -132 points Ringwraith with 1 Might, 1 Will, 1 Fate Mordor Troll 8 Orc Trackers |

How about Fimbul instead of Narzug. He can charge through difficult terrain and has Fight 5. |

Narzug does not have the power to spam might, his rule only works for shooting, which he isn't really all that great at. Fimbul, however, is amazing. He's won me games just by having his F5 and Hunt Master is stupidly amazing. He can always see you (Fell Sight) and can always move 10", regardless of terrain, making him amazing at hunting pretty much anything that thought it was safe. He even matches elven F. Chieftains are good, and regular wargs (IMO) are better just because Fell Sight isn't really worth a full point. Basically, replace Narzug with Fimbul, always. And at that point, it really comes down to personal choice. |

I agree with posts up there. Fimbul its way better than narzug, the only thing narzug its decent at its shooting and even so its done on a S2 bow, dont expect miracles. If was like vrasku with crossbow S capability I would give a go, but then S2 bow with no hunter orc special rules and kinda lowist fight to regular elite equvalent values? not that much worth it unless its personnal flavour or themed. Bettewn Fimbul and Warg chieftain. Fimbul its a cav model while mounted and still consderable cheaper than chieftain with the mounted upgrade purchased. Charge through terrain "like an elf" makes him a brutal thing, and prob the only warg in the entire range other than Bolg´s warg to be the best used of the fell sight special rule, even Azog´s white warg dont have that rule. The Warg chieftain aint no cav model but he does get some serious punching. 1st hes fight 5 like Fimbul, quite a feat for a warg. 2nd hes S6, its quite remarkable a warg to hit stuff that hard, a warg killing D6 targets on a 4+... that its cave troll equivalent. 3rd he got some unusual amount of wounds, where the regular captains stand with 2 wounds/1 fate, this nasty bugger comes with 3 wounds/1 fate, making him quite sturdy. This nasty predator got another unusual quality, alot of Will points. Not likethe best thing in the world, but 3 will can safe guarantee he will have some good chances to shove off magic in the 1st attempts at him, and still leaving him with a bit will prob to get bump courage for stand fast as hes not very courageous, not not to bad either 4th he got terror, quite unusuall for a model captain cost wise having terror. The only closest things with that are generic ringwraiths, castellans, and expensive nasty elven heroes. a model under 80pts with terror being a warg? yes please, can potencially avoid unwanted attencion, specially nearby your buddy ringwraiths for that -1 courage around 12" of em :) 5th and last, his speed, you dont have to worry cause he lose none of his vigour taking a 1 wound or 2, unlike fimbul if hes dismounted he loses alot effectiveness, wild warg can still keep up with your cav and be just as threatning the moment he stepped into the field. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Narzug's rule 'Each turn Narzug may spend a single Might point without having to reduce his store to modify either a To Hit roll, an In The Way roll, or a To Wound Roll'? I don't see literally anything there about it needing to be a bow shot specifically. Y Then again, I'm going off the Heroes and Villains downloadable from the GW website. Do they have different profiles in Desolation of Smaug? I just ordered in case, but if so, that would explain it. The consensus regardless seems to be, 'Warg Chieftain'. I'm veering away from the Fell Beast option though, as 10 will probably isn;t enough to use the Witch King offensively to his real potential. So, going with what people are saying above, the logical choice would seem to be:- Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 5 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield -131 points Morannon Orc Captain w/Shield 4 Black Numenoreans 4 Morannon Orcs with Spear and Shield 1 Morannon orc with Spear -130 points Wild Warg Chieftain 8 Wild Wargs -139 points Ringwraith with 1 Might Mordor Troll 8 Orc Trackers -200 points 600 points total. |

I never noticed that it doesn't specify the shoot phase, but the only time he would be able to use that outside the shoot phase would be to might up a fight To Wound roll, which is definitely not spamming. That's definitely nothing compared to Fimbul. |

I just looked up the FAQ, it specifies it must be a shooting attack. So no spamming. |
