Welcome gamers! Like you, I've played many games in hobby centres and friends' garages, on kitchen tables and bedroom floors and one theme seems to present itself more than others: the board is always flat and green. Of course, it's much easier to roll out a scatter mat and place a few trees on it. But, given the option to play on ANYTHING... what would you choose? This poll sets out a number of options, please support your choice with a commentary/images on why you like a particular theme - perhaps from a good (or bad!) past experience? |

I like everything from sieges to fighting in cities! That is what I chose, the city fighting, because it offers nice tactical challenges and I like the battles such in Osgiliath and Minas Tirith and Stalingrad. I'm also building a Goblin Town because I really like the narrow walkways and chasms and stuff! Also I like sieges. Its so pleasuring to watch my opponents soldiers get crushed by boulders from catapults. |

I enjoy lots of theme variants. The best come with the best story. The battle could take place on a flat featureless plain if the story was good enough. |

I selected option 3 because I like a lot of variety on the field. Maybe a wooded area or two, a small town on an edge, some hills, half -walls etc. More flexibility is key IMO |

What would goblin town count as?(Me, the big goblin and mordor orc from TLA are going to be playing on the one in warhammer world in a few weeks!)Why? Because...shooting will be useless because of all the skull poles/supports) and cavalry will be stuck at the bottom walkway since they can't climb ladders! |

Given the option, I quite like the idea of city fighting. The narrow pathways, the more skirmish-style combat (as opposed to forming ranks and shoving blocks of troops at each other), the close nature of the fighting, just makes it all more interesting and reliant on tactical manouvering. However, as with many, the most practical for me is light forest, some hills, a ruin or two. |

this is tough I really don't know how to answer this I really like the idea of fighting alongside buildings in rubble because you have to be tactically aware but at the same time a nice open field with a boulders trees and hills and the windmill or something which I played at a tournament is also fun I think kind of what James said if there's a map that's half broken down buildings and city with a forest somewhere and an open hilly Rohan area nearby that's perfect for me. One thing I can say I don't like though is massive amounts of forest because I usually use evil haha. Edit: I ended up voting city fighting because I like a few buildings in the middle of combat. but another one of my favorite things to do and you guys might laugh at the outdoor store I bought a giant rock that's perfect for hold ground or high ground it was like 8 dollars and actually looks like it belongs in scenery. Not just that but you have to take time to climb up and support your friends so it adds some tactics. I've played a few for fun games on there. Always cool. |

I would say option one: cities, towns etc. It's the same principle. I've seen the one in WHW, it's fantastic! It looks great in the rulebook, but even better when you see the whole thing in person. Personally, my favourite tables are the ones in the Ruin of Arnor sourcebook: option 3. Lots of little caves, rivers, copses, rock clusters, ruins etc. add variety but also create that "in the wild" feeling to a table. Edit: spelling |

Oh man, I dont know.....Im not trying to argue but I really say you'd have to make that a category of its own. The reason I say that is because there are just principals about it that are way different, having played on one. For one, you can climb up onto higher tiers, unlike some city fights depending on boards. A little different. But the main thing....in a city fight you can socerous blast or throw Aragorn the King 250+ points into the darkness in one turn....ive seen it happen......... But regardless, I guess its the closest option haha. |

I voted for 3 simply as it is the easiest to fabricate for a game. But I will go to war anywhere. Sieges are fun (for both sides). |
