Thornin's company has more members, but the fellowship has some big hitters in it. I'm thinking the dwarves might win.

What do you think?

Could Gimli beat his Dad Gloin? Can Gandalf beat erm, er... Gandalf..?

Thorin's company, I reckon. Thorin vs Aragorn, Balin, Bilbo, Ori and Oin vs Hobbits, Dwalin vs Boromir, Gloin vs Gimli, Fili and Kili vs Legolas, Gandalf and Bofur (he can resist magic) vs Gandalf, and the rest of the dwarves mobbing whichever battles are doing worst (probably Thorin vs Aragorn or Gloin vs Gimli).

The numbers, plus the variety of special rules, make it a lot easier for Thorin's company. After all, between Oin, Balin and Bombur's special rules, the fight is very much pushed in their favour.

Thorins company would win, only because they all synergise with their special rules. If the fellowship had their rules re-written now then it'd be closer.

Third the above ^ . 15 for Thorin's lot Vs 10 for the Fellowship.

They do have Bill the pony, watch out he might have laser beam eyes or something.

A pony

Killer

Killer

PONY.

I kinda really want to do this battle now! It'll go on my list of things to do next time I'm home, I reckon.

I tried this battle actually. I left Gandalf out of the Company, because he wasn't technically part of it. ( and because it would be ridiculous to have two of him on the table).
I used Legolas to take out the weak-combat special rulers, Gandalf took out Dwalin from a distance. The hobbits ganged up on Thorin and took him out no problem (using the ring and heroic strike) . Bilbo was useless as Frodo got the ring. Gimli fell to the axes of his father, but Aragorn avec Anduril and Boromir tag-team mowed through the enemies. It was a slaughter in the Fellowships favour.

This is how I imagined it would go down. Thorin&Co have some good rules and some heavy hitters, but the Three Hunters with Boromir and Gandalf seems like they would clean up real good.

Also I think it would take fellowship characters from other lists instead, King Elessar and Boromir Captain of the White Tower, fulled armoured and mounted..

It's interesting, whenever we've discussed this before I've always assumed he'd be on both sides, similarly I'd always assume you'd play with both Frodo and Bilbo having the ring, but it does seems odd, no less odd than Gimli smacking his Dad about though

I suppose you need to knock the Company down to the same points, the Fellowship on foot, with all their upgrades but no elven cloaks are 870 points and the company without Gandalf are 865 so that should be a pretty fair fight.

Glad to see the Fellowship won but I would have absolutely backed the Company (even without Gandalf) the extra numbers should mean you've always got someone to Heroic Strike your way to victory and, once you've killed the Hobbits, you should be able to surround them fairly easily and cut 'em to pieces.

Definitely want to give it a go at some point.

I would cast my vote for the fellowship. They have access to magic, and Legolas' archery. I'd would be interesting seeing a battle report pitching the two against each other.

I can't agree with this. In the Movies it seems like the three hunters can take on the WORLD all on their own.

I was fully expecting when the black gate opened at the end for just legolas, aragorn, and gimli to tell the army, "back off guys, these are ours."

The hobbits took out Thorin Freaking Oakenshield?
Wow. Just Wow.

Nice idea to test it out though. 8)

This definitely is an interesting one...... Id hope that the Fellowship won because Frankly I like the hunters and Boromir is one of my favs. I would hope the hobbits all day. Alll they do is drag down the awesomeness. Its like trying to have a good date with a girl at the movie theater when a little brother is there.

Love it! Cracking analogy! :-D

This thread has really got me thinking and intrigued about this, I reckon I might jump Bofur up the painting queue (he's the only one I've got left to paint) and fight this as a battle report! There's a chance I might be able to do it a week Wednesday, we shall see...
