Now, I understand they have a low defense and courage, but that doesnt matter, at all.

And if you dont know, heres why it makes sense....

They, like Corsair Reavers(2 more points) are meant for attack, attack, attack.

I dont know how many people have experimented with hunter orcs, but if you use them the right way, they are phenomenal.

Problem is for now, they dont have a high defense unit to put in front of them. This may change when the Gundabads come out.

But I meant, supposedly some of the best units in the game are Corsair Reavers, Feral Uruk Hai, etc

These guys are cheaper. People say well yeah, fight value, defense, etc....but thats not what these guys are meant for.

From what I see, they have multiple attacks, and they are good to have a dozen or two of at the beginning of a game, and they tear through your enemy forces, and yes get killed, but they are the guys meant to do damage and get killed so they wont be sticking around anyway.

Anyone use these bad boys on foot only yet?

They're not really cheap enough to be considered a "throw away" model, IMO. However, as you describe, if you can get them in to combat they will undoubtedly be very effective.

2 attacks for *ahem* points is pretty decent though, it must be said. Therefore, they'd match up well in combat vs mirkwood rangers, offsetting their anti-horde bonus nicely.

I think they are good. Morannon orcs supporting them.. Minas Tirith Warriors had no change against them in my last game.

Hunter orcs? This thread is right up my street then :D Love my hunter orcs to bits.

Firstly, always always always take fimbul on fell warg. Great value for points and at F5 he can match most heroes. Narzug is also a good choice, being able to spend free might when shooting is great for getting those banners. The rest are personal choice.

Foot hunter orcs are great when used right. I take 28 in 500pts along with 6 hunter orcs on fell warg and it works a treat (providing the enemy isnt channelling aura of dismay with thranduil). Never charge head on into a shield wall, you will die and die quickly.
Maybe sacrifice a few to stop them wrapping round but focus on one end of the wall and get behind/ surround the models as quickly as possible. The mtd hunter orcs are great for this as they have extended move and don't require LoS to charge. Always double team the enemy if possible so at least one hunter orc can feint.
People slate the mtd hunter orcs but being able to knock down is handy. Gives you those double strikes which against higher D models is usually the difference between a kill. Taking 2 per warband to escort the heroes makes the versatile.
I do have an all foot list planned for 1000pts which includes something like 48 hunter orcs but I may change it when the gundabads are released.

Nice to hear that you think they're as good as I do. Between their cost and their offensive prowess, I like em. Generally, Id probably start them behind a shield wall and move them in close. I currently have about 20 on foot and 18 mounted, some of which Im trying to get rid of lol. But still!

Their only downfall to me, is that theres not really any good troops to work with them.

I prefer to use 2 Fell Wargs rather than 1 Hunter Orc mtd. They may not hit as hard, but they give an extra body for about the same cost and they move 1/2 instead of 1/4 in terrain.

I'm more curious about putting them on wargs. For an Orc cavalry component are they better taken over ordinary warg riders?

No, for a full point less you can get a Warg Rider with shield and throwing spear who is much more effective as a mtd hunter orc. He has a slight chance of killing someone before combat begins, he's less likely to die and he hits just as hard.

Well thats not 100% true. The hunter orcs have 1 more strength than regular warg riders. Thats a big deal if you charge and have two strength 4 hits to a 6 defense.

And the wargs have a special ability, so you dont need to see who youre charging.

Pretty good, but in my opinion, like with most of the new troops, their special abilities arent worth their points.

You can get a regular warg for 4 pts less than a fell warg, and attach stuff. So in other words, every 3 fell wargs, you get an extra regular warg rider.

Normal Warg Riders can use the Warg's S4 in combat.

Short answer: Yep

So short answer, you're paying qquite a premium to charge something you can't see, which is only useful in very specific circumstances.

Huh I thought only a single attack would be S4, interesting to know.

What if Hunter orcs were allowed to use the many blades rule mounted, or simply had 2 attacks, would they be too cheap with their current pricetag? It's a pity they arn't worth it currently since the models are fantastic.

If they had 2 attacks while on a warg, I think they would much more powerful, but still not OP. They're still pretty fragile.

I think its better that the hunter orcs aren't as good on fell wargs, we don't want new models to invalidate the old ones. Lets not forget, the warg riders from the Lord of the Rings represent Mordor's trained standing army, whereas the hunter orcs are more tribal dudes. No reason they need to have 3 attacks on a charge and get 6 strikes when they win.

Yeah true^ the best thing about hunter orcs is the fact that on foot they have more attacks. That was the whole point of my topic.

They just shouldn't cost so much mtd. They shouldn't invalidate anyone, but they also shouldn't be invalidated themselves.

Oh I agree mounted, they cost too much. But on foot, their pt value is great I think.

I almost wish they had 2 attacks mounted so they were the anti-Sons of Eorl
