Time to get a little more specific.

LotR get's a relaunch this febuary (4th of feb to be precise).

Release includes 5 books (40k codex size and price, sadly no hardcover) that cover ALL armies. All existing books will be removed and are no longer for sale, except for the rulebook itself and the three campaign books for the three movies.

Following books will be released: Realms of Men (Arnor, Gondor, Rohan), Forces of Mordor (Mordor, Isengart, Moria/Misty Mountains Goblins), Free folk of Middle-Earth (Elves and Dwarfs I assumed), Fallen Realms (Harad and Easterlings) and one that sums up the rest.

The Books will contain updated rules for ALL LotR Miniatures and nullify the entries in the big Rulebook. The rulebook is not replaced, but each of the five new themed books contains several pages of updated rules. WotR will mostly vanish from stores and be a better supported specialist game. There will be releases for WotR, but the LotR tabletop stays the third of the three big GW games.

Expect your armies to change drastically.

The release is accompanied by one (1) new plastic box set (some kind of cavallery) and a whole bunch of finecast miniatures. Some old friends, like the WotR command boxes, and some genuine new sculpts.

There is nothing else happening in febuary, at least that's what I've been told. First pure LotR month for some time now. Expect pictures any day now, the new WD will feature a LOT of LotR.

If this is true which of the rules would you like to see changed or modified? Basically something I always disliked about SBG in comparison to WotR for ex. was the fact that they were to few special rules. Named heroes didn't have much difference from one another in regards to their profiles. So if the rumors are true I would like to see more special rules given to a wider range of heroes. This will make the gameplay more diverse and interesting.
What would you want from the new rules?

It's a huge relief that the basics of the game will be staying the same, and hopefully they will take steps to address the stats creep of recent releases. I personally would like to see fewer special rules, but each to their own I guess. I'm sure we'll all find something to whinge about in February!

In the meantime good work GW for giving SBG some love, although I will have to buy all the army books. At least spending cash on army books slows down the increase in my backlog! I hope they don't make some models/ characters obsolete (ie I just finally got Lobelia off ebay!)

I would like to see the men of Gondor and Rohan get a slight boost. The WoMT should be able to take on at least 2 orcs.

Another suggestion would be to make siege engines more usable for SBG. I understand that a trebuchet can't be very useful in skirmish games but on the other hand ballistae should be more efficient. Since as it is, it's pretty much a waste to add a piece of artillery to your army.

I hadn't thought of that, but, yeah, that'd be nice.

Personally, I'd like to see Rohan become more competitive, and Wood Elves less so.

+1 8) Rohan definitely needs an update! *keeping Fingers crossed that the plastic cav box will be lance-armed Rohirrim*

It sounds weird for new players to have to buy the ORB when 2/3rds of it are profiles that are obsolete, and then have to buy additional sourcebooks to get the new rules. I think I would have preferred a new ORB that has *all* the rules, then the regional sourcebooks with profiles, army lists, and (hopefully) scenarios.

I hope they also release Sons of Eorl on foot models, along with the newest Faramir and Eomer models on foot.

I'd just be happy to have all the FAQs, White Dwarf articles, and expansions rolled into a main SBG rulebook, and then all the forces rules be in a relatively small number of expansion rules. It sounds like we're getting that last part, at least, but sadly not the first part. A re-do of the Mines of Moria box would be awesome.

They might release all of the WD artiles in the books themselves, so there would be no need to have it online.

Good point, like they could easily roll in Hornblowers to the forces books.

They most probably are, since most of the articles have disappeared from their site. The could also rework the army lists and the alliances, I find it ridiculous for ex. that Floi is in the Khazad-dum list and not Erebor. Khazad-dum was destroyed years before he was even born lol.

What I imagine will happen is the old hardback will slowly get made obsolete and when the new starter pack comes out the rulebook in there be the main book, with a new updated hardback later?
