Hey all, I'm looking for alternate (cheaper) models to use as Dunlendings and I'm a little stuck. GW's Dunlending Huscarls look rather Viking-esque, which I like. Historically, however, considering that the Rohirrim (based on Anglo-Saxons) came and drove the Dunlendings out would ancient Britons be more realistic Dunlendings? Both Wargames Factory and Gripping Beast make nice Viking models that I'd use if I decide to go that route. The two ranges apparently mix well and are cheap and plentiful enough to build 6 Companies including Thrydan quite easily. Warlord Games make some pretty cool Britons, seen here: http://store.warlordgames.co.uk/ancient-british-warriors-1348-p.asp. Unfortunately, there are several bare chests and unarmoured minis, so I'd need at least 2 boxes to make 6 Companies. Any advice from a modeling, rules or historical standpoint would be much appreciated! |

Ya know... I suspect a lot of Dunlending warriors would have similar equipment to their Rohir kin and neighbours. So you really could make a set of converted Rohir plastic soldiers, just with different shields and Dunnish heraldry. |

I remember when they were $20!) and I've painted soooo many sets of those (at least 4, probably 5 or 6) that I'll be using Saxon models as Rohirrim from now on. There's simply no joy in painting those 12 poses anymore. |

Quite a while ago I bought some Foundry Miniatures Germanics: http://wargamesfoundry.com/historical_ranges/single_packs/ancients/german/germanic_veterans_ag015/?sector_id=12 And did some hand swaps so they have plundered Orc and Rohirrim hand weapons. Some had the shields attached, but wherever possible I just gave them a sword or axe. I have 24 of those guys acting as my Wildmen, but the bare-chested British could fit in. |
