Post subject:  New profiles for some Elves

Aaaah.. with the introduction of Rúmil, I bought the new WD, I was kinda disappointed with the Heroes tbh, so I made this thread to make it slightly more of how I'd see them.

Also contains a few other Elves.

Haldir (normal) - 80 Points

f s d a w c m w f
6/+3 4 4 2 2 6 3 2 2

Wargear
Haldir carries an Elven blade. At an additional cost he can have the following:

Elven Bow - 5 points
Elven Cloak - 10 points
Armour - 5 points

Special Rules:

Woodland Creature

Expert Shot

Defender of the Realm
Haldir is counted as being in range of a Banner if he is within 12"/28cm of Galadriel or Celeborn. In addition, Haldir automatically passes courage tests if Galadriel or Celeborn are within 12"/28cm.

Haldir (Helm's Deep) - 85 Points

f s d a w c m w f
6/+3 4 4 2 2 6 3 2 1

Wargear
Haldir carries an Elven blade, an Elf bow and wears armour. At an additional cost he may take the following items:

Elven cloak - 10 points

Special rules:

Woodland Creature

Allies till the End

One Final Blow

Rúmil - 80 Points

f s d a w c m w f
6/+3 4 4 2 2 6 3 2 2

Wargear
Rúmil carries and Elven blade. At an additional cost he may take the following items:

Elven Bow - 5 points
Elven cloak - 10 points
Heavy armour - 10 points
Shield - 5 points

Special Rules:

Woodland Creature

Swift Parry

Defender of the Realm (See Haldir)

Orophin - 80 Points

f s d a w c m w f
6/+3 4 4 2 2 6 3 2 2

Wargear
Orophin carries and Elven blade. At an additional cost he may take the following items:

Elven Bow - 5 points
Elven cloak - 10 points
Armour - 10 points

Special Rules:

Woodland Creature

Defender of the Realm (See Haldir)

Swift Dodge - Orophin's deft agility allows him to dodge the arrows and thrown weapons of the enemy. If an Evil model shooting at Orophin rolls a 6, that dice must immediately be re-rolled (remember that you cannot re-roll a re-roll)

That's it for just, I will add more over time though. :)

I made a house rule for each Orophin and Rumil last summer. I made one a combatant (rumil) and one a more shooty based character (orophin).

it was quite a good idea at the time IMO.

Orophin can remain stationary and shoot twice OR hit on a 2+ instead. something like that

Right, time for some new Elven profiles, and I have given Orophin a special rule, however I'm thinking of giving all 3 brothers expert shot, in which case Haldir would need a unique special rule, any suggestions?

Anyway, now for some new profiles.

Glorfindel, Lord of The West -??? Points

F S D A W C M W F
9 5 9 4 4 7 3* 3 3

Glorfindel Lord of The West carries a fine Elven blade and wears Mithril plate armour of Gondolin.

Asfaloth - 15 points

Special Rules:

Woodland Creature

Lineage of the Firstborn

Armour of Gondolin - See Fall of the Necromancer book

Shining White Light - Glorfindel is seen as a shining white light, Good models receive +1 Courage, while Evil models have a -1 Courage penaltrty for being within 18"/42CM of Glorfindel.

* Mighty Hero

Fine swordmanship - Glorfindel is such skileld in the art of mêlée combat, that he recieves no -1 penatly for using his Elven Blade with two hands, he gains 1 attack for using it one handed, and may parry blows (counts as shielding)

Asfaloth - Asfaloth is one of the swiftest and wisest horses in Middle-Earth. Asfaloth may move 14"/32CM rather than the 10"/24CM that horses normally move. Note that Glorfindel's Woodland Creature special rule also applies to Asfaloth, so he treats woodland terrain as clear terrain for the purpose of movement.

Gil-Galad - ???points

F S D A W C M W F
9 5 9 4 5 7 6 3* 1

Gil-Galad wears fine Mithril plate armour and carries the mighty spear Aeglos. at an additional cost he may carry a mithril shield.

Mithril Shield - 10 points

Aeglos

Mithril shield - A shield made of Mithril tend to be quite shiny, and so.. (need a special rule here)

Special Rules

Woodland Creature

Lineage of The Firstborn

Mithril shield - A shield made of Mithril tend to be quite shiny

High King of The Elves

EDIT: I realise some people may think they are a bit overpowered, however they would be quite expensive, and they are the best fighters of their age (Glorfindel in the third age, not in the first age) and I wanted them pretty damned powerful, as I was thinking of them being the good sides Sauron and Balrog.

5 wounds and 6 Fate to Glorfindel
He's my favourite elf no doubt but thats just unkillable, remember that the only models over 3 wounds are Sauron TDL, Balrog, Dragon, Gulhavar and (not sure) The Mumakil, these all got disadvantages twarts it:

TDL: no fate (unless with ring)
Balrog: no fate, no might
Dragon: may flee when wounded, basically your not gonna last it those 7 wounds most of the time
Gulhavar: loses A and C when reduced in Wounds
Mumakil: stampede

Reduce him either to three wounds and three fate, or five wounds without Fate

Okay, I've altered him down to 3 fate, but I've only put his wounds down to 4.

Another thing, Glorfindel can have 5 attack!
that makes a 60% chance on outowin, except when against TDL or the Balrog,
I'm myself reluctant to go above 3 A because starting with 4A you have more chance to throw a 6 then not to, that combined with a high fight?

Well I was trying to make him Good side's Balrog/Sauron, along with Gil-Galad..

There is no model, be it good or evil that can have 5 attacks, drop an attack and boost fight or defence to ten I'd say
don't higher the strenght though: they're elves, not bodybuilders

Fight 10????? That'd mean I'd have to raise Gil-Galad's fight value too, but I really shouldn't...

I thought you wanted a good Balrogbeater :P

Post subject:

Ye but Sauron only has fight 9...

Author:  Adanedhel [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:20 am ]
Post subject:

but has 'Chill Soul', and a whole lot of other magic tricks which are particularly unpleasant

Author:  Whiskas [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:24 am ]
Post subject:

But Glorfindel is resistant to magic, and I was thinking of making a mithril shield able to repel a magic spell :p

Author:  Adanedhel [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:31 am ]
Post subject:

Then you should lower it's cost, resistance to magic is around 5 pts
It was for tLotW in every case

Author:  Whiskas [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:34 am ]
Post subject:

Yeah but the shield is also a normal shield (gives +1 defence) which costs 5 points for a hero...

Author:  Adanedhel [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 8:36 am ]
Post subject:

hmm, ok
as for points, there is a point cost calculator, unfortunatly, I do not have the link :(

Post subject:

Glorfindel
F S D A W C M/W/F
9/3 5 5 4 4 7 3/3/3
Elf Hero, no armor, elf blade, mounted on legendary horse
Abilities: Expert Rider; Terror; Mighty Hero; Resistant to Magic
Cost: 225

Right, got he's missing a few of his abilites for that point cost, how much would his shining light special rule cost, along with the Woodland Creature?

heavy mithril armour is 20 points, making him 245 points then...

Author:  Adanedhel [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 12:04 pm ]
Post subject:

expert rider is useless, as Glorfindel is not that much an archer
Woodland Creature is like free for elves
I'de make shining light alike 15-20 pts
Try to get him to 25P pts, I'd never use more then that for an elven hero, they're outnumbered enough as it is

Author:  Whiskas [ Sun Aug 02, 2009 3:39 pm ]
Post subject:

Yes but Expert Rider allows for re-rolls when jumping, which is good.

and Whiskas, don't use the cost calculator. It is as flawed as a pink paprika. You can just have his original profile and improve from there.

Besides, the format for the rules is unhandy as well, we don't know what they do now, and you need a backstory, and motivation for making these rules, and LOME and WOTR rules, and.....
