hi

has anyone any experience in using an avenger bolt thrower?

a lot of people seem to think its not worth the points
maybe its only good for siege games?

i never used an avenger but i did use a dwarf ballista, i think they are pretty effective, it's not about the damage they cause, it's about the damage they CAN cause. They have the ability to instand kill anything in one shot (apart from Sauron and a balrog that is.)
Just give them a go and see if you like them. IMO it's always wise to get one extra crew member so you can keep shooting longer.

Good luck!

Emm ironfoor before commenting on anything make sure you get the idea on what the topic is...

The avengers do have shorter range and can shoot D6 shots per turn and it is always advaicable to get "fast reload" to get the maximum effect out of your Avenger.

They don´t kill targets outright but can ause some seriouse damage...like 3-4 stre 7 shots per turn? not bad i´d say, and if you get it to an elevated positon then it should have a major impact on the opponents force...

As far as i know the avenger is a siege engine and thus auto kills everyting with D10 or W10.... I could be wrong though i don't know the exact rules of the avenger.

What i was trying to point out is that i didn't play with the avenger, but that i did with something similar. I mean they have basically the same role on the battle field, don't they?

Well a Mate of mine has one, I've been lucky enough to play with it, nothing serious though, took out 10 Morranon orcs in two turns thanks to my captain speanding a might to break their force (I had two crewmen and a captain)

overall I think it depends on your situation, yet I do think they are more flexible than the Battle cry Trebuchet.
