hi all,

Lately i've been thinking of trying orc trackers mounted on wargs. Do you guys think they are viable? i was thinking of something like this:

Morannon orc captain...............................55??

9 orc trackers + wargs.............................99
9 MO + shields........................................72
9 MO + spears........................................72

total: 298
might: 2

what do you guys think??

I think they're worth the points. Bowmen with that kind of mobility is great, and you can still use them to charge weak points in the opposing infantry. The best part is they cost the same as Khand cavalry, shoot as well, but get S4 on the attack.

Actually <-- :) no, I haven't. But it's pretty obvious the main weakness will be defense.

Well that's interesting, Orc Trackers on Wargs..

Sounds like a cool model, but is it good for use in the game too.

Give it a try, I would like to hear your experiences.

I've used them in two GTs and Last years Doubles and they have always been very effective.

I finished 16th in 2008 (evil 100%, I lost twice with Good due to my bad play)
This year I finished 60th but my evil army achieved 3 wins and a draw (I took a less competitive Good army just to use gandalf for the 1st time ever)
In the Doubles we finished 11th.
WHY....
They shoot on 4+, fight with str4, get charge bonus and, if the rider is killed, you still have a chance of keeping the warg in play.
With an orc drummer you can move 6.5" and still fire.
2pts cheaper than a warg rider with bow and hit on 4+, not 5+
Warg riders with throwing spears are not worth 3 extra pts as they only hit on 5+ and the spear cant be used dismounted.

I actually think orc trackers on warg are fantastic for competition gaming. The only real danger are strength 3 bows. But with the addition of The Shadowlord........

However, I'm not using them in this years Doubles (but only in order to use a different pair of armies - I still rate them highly).

Hope this helps

Ian

Forgot to mention.....

with all cavalry you need a mounted hero. After the initial charge you NEED to charge again in the next turn. Thus you need a hero in order to use might for heroic move, if necessary.

Even though orc trackers have bows, they can be very effective charging with str 4. 8)

Another method of defence is to have a line of infantry (MOrcs def 6) with a 2nd rank of trackers on warg. The trackers ignore the infantry for line of sight but gain 50% of the shots hitting the infantry. They can also see the enemy easy when they need to charge round the flanks.

Have fun !

This doesn't only apply to Trackers. This is a helpful hint for all cavalry, but for Trackers maybe a little more so because they should be on the offensive due to their low defense.

I've used them before and agree with Bugsplat. Mounted cavalry are usually pretty effective and S4 on the charge is great. Obviously, worry about the defense. But you get great maneuverability/speed, which is great not only for pitched battles but many other scenarios. Just watch out for enemy bowfire.

So, for everyone that has tried them...

Have you actually converted Trackers on Wargs, or just proxied Warg Riders with Bows?
