Post subject:  The Gatekeeper of Bree

I thought that this would make a sort of cool/funny house rule so...here goes!

Arnor

The Gatekeeper of Bree points: 15

F 3
S 3
D 3
A 1
Wo 1
C 3
M 0
Wi 0
Ft 1

Wargear
The Gatekeeper is unarmed.

Special Rules

The Gatekeeper: The Gatekeeper of Bree is always vigilantly guarding his city against unwanted intruders. If he is in base contact with a bolted door or gate, he adds plus one to it's defense. However, the door or gate may only have a max defense of 10.

Call for Help: The Gatekeeper often calls for help if he sees a threat to himself or his city. If there is no one within 4" of him at the start of a move phase in which he is defending a door or gate (see above), he must take a courage test. If failed, he must move as far away from the gate as he can for the next two moves, while the closest friendly model to the gate must move toward it.

Maybe I should give him a dagger or make him only 10 pts... Comments?

Hello,

I think its really a cool idea.
Especially because there is no such model and there are not rules for it.
Then it is fun to create it by yourself, but comments may always help.

Allright, I see he has 3 Wounds and a high Defence if in base contact with
the gate. But, as a gatekeeper I would say maybe he has a dog or two, as good trackers/buddies. And a wandering stick or a dagger would also be a fun and good thing. Or maybe do some with the lantarn he carries at night. But it is a really good idea.

Are you going for Harry Goatleaf or just a generic gatekeeper?

I'm shooting for Harry Gotaleaf. Sorry for the confusion, but I just couldn't remember his name...

Good you say that.
Now we know which person you make a profile for.
First I thought you had made a profile for that figure which his head is chopped by one of the Nine of in FOTR. But is that now Farmer Maggot or isn't there a model for the person yet?

What did you think about my first comments?

Greetings

Just remember that Goatleaf joins Bill Ferny when Sharkey's men attack the Shire so maybe add something in his rules that could make him swing to the evil side if he fails a Courage test or something.
Just a though. :D

Ebob does a model that could be used as the Gatekeeper of Bree - a stooped fellow with a lantern.

The townsfolk models (includes potential Barliman Butterbur and Bill Ferny models too).

Thanks for the great comments, everyone!

I really like the ebob model--it would work great!

Ive thought about the denethor-ish rule, and I like the idea. So the finaL (maybe) profile is...

Good Arnor Heroes

Harry Goatleaf...............20 pts

F...........3
S...........3
D...........3
A...........1
Wo.........1
C...........3
M...........0
Wi..........0
Ft...........1

Wargear: Harry Goatleaf carries a dagger

Special Rules

The Gatekeeper: Harry Goatleaf is always vigilantly guarding his city against unwanted intruders. If he is in base contact with a bolted door or gate, he adds plus one to it's defense. However, the door or gate may only have a max defense of 10.

If failed, he must move as far away from the gate as he can for the next two moves, while the closest friendly model to the gate must move toward it.

Untold alliances: Harry Goatleaf joined Bill Ferny when the Shire was attacked by Sharkey's Rouges. At the start of every move phase that Harry is not in battle, role a D6. If the result is 3-6, he is fine. If the result is 1 or 2, the evil player controls him for that turn and he can attack good models.

I think this is pretty god, but i'm still not sure about the point cost

I am not sure his alliance rule will work since it seems a little to much in favour of the evil side, i would change it a bit

How about something like if Bill Ferny is within 3" of Harry Goatleaf, for two whole turns, Bill persuades him to join him. But every time he wounds someone, he takes a courage test. If he passes it, he turns back.

I know, its a bit unreliable, but its just a thought.

Actually that is a pretty cool rule! :)

I like the idea but with his rules he wil be only bad to take for the good side. There are not many doors in the game. and for 20 points you can take two gaurds of the FC.

Maybe take the profile of a wild men Chieftain with the specials rules and make the model 25 points.
