Some characters (eg. Shadow lord with darkness or Galadriel with blinding light) can cast an aura that protects models against shooting, so you only hit them on a 6+. If you imagine the Shadow lord with some troops protected within his aura, then some more troops behind outside the aura, can I target the troops behind to avoid his protection? So the models inside the darkness would be hit on 6+. But can someone shoot a troop behind this, outside the aura. For example, could you target the troops behind and hit them on a 3+ if that is your shooting skill (like an elf). So you could target the troops behind, hit them on 3+, then take an in-the-way test and 50/50 either hit the troop behind the darkness, or a soldier in the darkness? Or should the troops behind the bubble also only suffer a hit on 6+, as an effect of shooting through the bubble? |

I checked the FAQs and did not find anything about this. Playing the rules as written would mean that you could target models directly behind but outside the range of such aura effects without those models gaining any benefit. That seems a bit weird if one thinks about in real world terms and would could choose to play differently with an agreeable opponent. Rules as written can run on their own internal logic sometimes. |

Thanks for the reply. This came up in a friend's match ... basically the opponent shot at the back rows on a 3+ then either killed them or the front row (in the way) dodging the 6+ magic effect. Result: orc horde swiftly cut down by the elves! To me it also seemed logical that shooting the back rows should be on a 6+, as presumably there should be a "dark cloud" in front of them obscuring line of sight, even if they're not directly in the cloud. But maybe one for a future FAQ. |
