So a tournament over the weekend my opponent and I had a disagreement. Its was regarding Thorin if he is equipped with Oakensheild and Orcrist does he get the elven blade rule if defending with oakensheild? I say he does do to the rules stating a model that's modeled with an eleven blade has this rule. My opponent argument was that thorin should have to be attacking to get this benefit. What do you guys think? |

I am under the impression that someone with an elven blade and shield cannot use the shielding bonus (roll Double dice for the duel but no strikes on a win) and the elven blade tie breaker bonus (win ties on a 3+) at the same time. I do not have any errata in front of myself to cite, but I feel like this questionwas asked before. |

Yeah Jdizzy basically I believe if a unit is shielding, he is clearly using only the shield and not using what is a very finely crafted Blade, because only that blade wins the 3-6 tie. I just can't see a guy shielding with one hand on a shield and one on a sword. This is what I imagine when a troop shields: http://www.hurstwic.org/history/article ... _hands.jpg |

Plus a model equipped with elven blade and shield can still shield. But then it can't use the elven blade has a two handed weapon . |

I understand that one can carry an elven blade and shield and use the shielding rule. No question about that. What I understand from your question is the following: if thorin is shielding and the duel roll results in a tie, does thorin win the tie on a 4+ or a 3+. Am I correct in understanding your question, or are you asking something different? |

He's wondering if he can shield and win on a 3-6. Here's the old topic.... viewtopic.php?f=49&t=29072&p=373173&hilit=Shielding+and+Elven+blade#p373173 Southern Dunedain who I would say is very apt to answer rules questions said no they cannot be used together. Technically we still don't have a 100% Answer, but I still think it shouldn't be used together. This site is dead and I think it would be better to ask someones YouTube. |

Found the answer in the GBHL community FAQ. Note the answer is GWA which means the games developers at GW have given us this answer so is as good as official. I have attached a photo of the question below. The full doc can be found in the files section of the GBHL Facebook page. |

As one is shielding, they are opting to use the shield benefit as opposed to the elf blade benefit, therefore they do not get the elf blade bonus. |
