Post subject:  stand fast confusion - heroes in combat

Hi everyone,

I just had a read through the Hobbit: Unexpected Journey rulebook (mini book text box pg 47) and it states that heroes that are engaged in combat do not test on their Courage, so they cannot use the Stand Fast! rule.

If courage tests are taken after combat and all combats require the losing side to back away when would this apply? Perhaps I have missed something?

Thanks,
Michael

Courage tests are taken at the beginning of your turn, not at the end of the fight phase. Therefore, if your opponent moves first, or if they call a heroic action and move into your heroes before your turn starts, then your heroes could be engaged in combat before they test.

This is actually a very popular strategy to move into enemy Broken Heroes but leave the warriors alone. Therefore, the warriors will run since none of thier leaders can take standfasts.

Oh boy... yes that makes complete sense. The rule third paragraph under Broken Force starts by saying, "If, at the beginning of any turn, etc...". If I would have kept reading a few more paragraphs it implies the test to be made before a model moves.

Thanks for clarifying.

Cheers,
Michael
