Just wanting to clarify, If a spear armed warrior fighting as a spear-support, is the only model within range of a friendly banner, who is 'involved' in the fight, can you re-roll the dice for the spear armed model? (same question for pikes). |

I am on my way home from a family house but I'll look when I get home. I wanna say yes any model within the 3" involved in a fight gets the bonus considering he's part of it. |

In the Hobbit rule book its not specific but in the old One Ring rule book it states that as long as one model involved in the fight is within range of the Banner than the whole fight is considered to be within range |

I think they can. I've always played that way, because that seems like the rules as intended, and when I first learnt at a GW Store, that's how I was taught. |

Same here its the way I learned the game. They way I see it is the spear or pike armed model is considered part of the fight therefore if they are within range of a banner the whole combat is within range of the banner. |

I have always played it so that the model in base contact is rolling the dice and must be in the range of the banner. I'll have to check this when I get home from work. I only play with people whom I have taught to play, so I may well have been wrong since the beginning... -- Pasi |

Looking at the rulebooks, I'm tempted to change how I have played this. In the previous edition it was said (p. 43) that "a spear-armed warrior… is not part of the combat for all intents and purposes", and this included a spear-wielding hero not being able to use Might for the combat, or the spear-armed model's F or S having any effect, only contributing a +1 Attack to the supported model. Therefore I read the banner rule as the warrior in the front row being the only one in combat and having to be in the banner range. In the Hobbit rulebook it is said (p. 69) that a spear-armed model joins the fight, and "contributes a single Attack to the Fight, at his own Fight value and using his own Strength…". In my opinion this allows the spear-armed supporting model to benefit from the banner even if the model in the front is not in the banner range. -- Pasi |
