If a Hero takes a test which has modifiers, does Might get applied before or after modifiers?

e.g. Thorin falls over in shallow water and rolls a 1. He gets -1 for wearing armour, but the roll cannot go below 1. If he uses Might to increase to a 2, does the -1 modifier still apply to that making it back into a 1? Or does the Might come after any modifiers (the rulebook doesn’t mention modifiers but it does say after rerolls)?

Might modifies Dice Scores. and the modifiers are applied after. So a roll of a 1, with might to make 2, then -1 for armor makes a roll of 1 on the swim chart and thus he dies anyway.

If thid was true then you could not get a 6 when rolling to win with a twohanded weapon. You roll the 6, the oppertunity to use might comes but you cant use might on a 6, so the modifiers comes and you are stuck with a 5. You would also never be able to use feint with a twohanded sword. Dice score is what you get after all modifiers has been applied. A dice roll is what the dice actually says before modifiers is my understanding of it.
No the modifiers come first, a roll of 1or 2 is the same thing with a -1 modifier. Then you can use might.
Have fun

I know there have been a number of opposing views about this, but for me the -1 for wearing armour effectively doubles your chances that you would drown (without might). If you then had to use twice the amount of might, to me you would be been penalised twice, which I don't think is what is intended. Unfortunately this is RAI rather than RAW- it's something that could easily be settled with a wording clarification. There really should be a difference between a "dice roll" and a "dice score" (i.e. modified dice roll) where you can then might "dice scores". After all, might is there to allow heroes to do cool stuff.

"cool stuff" AKA not ruining the entire plotline of your campaign by falling in a pond.
