It says a Khandish Chariot follows all the rules for a Monstrous Mount. Does that mean it can use brutal power attacks? Or does it not being S6 limit what it can do?

The new rules cover Monstrous CAVALRY, not Monstrous Mounts. The Chariot has been overlooked so stick to the original rules.

What original rules? From the old book that has been replaced by the Hobbit rulebook?

Monstrous cav in the new book = monstrous mount in the old book. I think they are the same thing just reworded and when we quizzed Simon about it at ToS in feb he said that they could but to expect it to be changed in the next FAQ, whenever that is.

Interesting. It seems like that makes Chariots pretty powerful, no?

It does but no-one ever uses them. Khand just isn't a competitive army. You hardly ever see it on the tourney circuit.

It was an oversight on GW's part though.

I've only ever come up against one Khand army and I was able to beat it fairly easily. The large base size of the chariots makes it hard to manoeuvre them and I was able to swamp them without too much hassle.

Southy's right about the ruling too, they can use BPA's as the rules stand. To be honest I quite like it, it makes them that bit more effective and if you think of it as representing the models getting crushed beneath the wheels (Rend) or sent flying by the impact (Hurl and Barge) then they're quite fluffy too.

What about Easterling phalanx, backed up by chariots? That seems like it could be strong.

Although the Chariot can use Brutal Power attacks, hurl is fairly useless for it, as it should be. The rules for Hurl state that it must be above the strength of the model it is throwing. This means that Chariots will only be throwing Hobbits....

Rend and Barge are the only relevant ones for it.

Good catch. Rend is still pretty good

I hope with the FAQ the Chariots keep barge, to me it just seems appropriate, and it might slightly de-nerf them (compared to their pre-hobbit line)

Agreed, but I think they're still not that useful. Their fight isn't high enough to win, an extra attack doesn't help the odds much, and the base size makes it easier to counter charge and swamp. You'd think they'd get at least something like the camel rider's auto-hit on a charge.

If you use the king, or a chieftain you could hurl pretty well, think about it:
King calls a piercing strike(they all have axes after all) could get a S7 if rolled well, considering you always use the best stats with cavalry anyways.

Not that Devlan Mud if you keep them for heroes only, and keep some drones to stave off being swamped.

Pretty sure you can't use a special weapon strike to increase your hurl distance because hurling is a BPA and using a BPA replaces striking normally.

You cant use any special strikes when using Brutal Power attacks. Honestly though, it wont be necessary. You likely wound on 4+ when Rending, and then you get +1 to your rolls for having a two handed weapon. The -1 modifier wont apply since your on a Chariot. Therefore you'll need a 3+ to wound in most cases

They still suffer the -1 penalty for using a 2h weapon, they aren't burly, the chariot doesn't over rule this
I wouldn't bother with the 2h especially seeing as it can be used as a hand axe, wining is more important especially when you commit to a piercing strike.

I have to look back at the rules but I could have sworn Cavalry or Montrous Mounts allow Two handed weapons to ignore the penalty. Ill have to look though.

As for the special strike, I agree that Peircing strike is a much better option, since if you lose the fight, the Charioteer will probably die anyway.

The only viable option with Chariots is to have them ridden by heroes, otherwise you are throwing points away with models with no survivability
