Everyone knows that a shade reduces the fight of a hero in a formation, but does the shade have to be in range of just the formation or does the shade have to be in range of the hero specifically?

Since the Hero is part of the formation, and whole formation reduces its fight, it seems natural that Shade only needs to be within range of the formation.
