Post subject:  mounts and heroic combats

ok so i can across this problem. if a hero calls a heroic combat against someting like a warg rider and kills the riders with the warg not fleeing, can he move on or does he also have to kill the warg (it gets really annoying somethings as you might kill the rider with the warg fleeing so your fine, but if it stays...)

i think the hero would also have to kill the warg, but its something thats got a bit of debate
so what do you guys think?

Why the poll? The rules clearly state that the hero has to kill *all* of his enemies to be able to move. If the warg stays on the field, then it is not dead, making the hero fail his heroic.

I was pretty sure that it was like that, i was just clearing it up. and i just like polls :)

IIRC, Technically, when a rider is killed, the mount flees automatically. Having the mount stay around if it passes a courage test each turn is a optional rules variant. So if it bugs you that much, don't play with the variant. 8)

Read the section talking about mounts with an attack and fight value - ie. Wargs.

This slightly off topic, but when determining how many models you have in your force, the mount and rider count as one, don't they? So, if the rider dies and the mount remains on the table, you haven't killed a model (for the purposes of breaking a force), right? To get the kill, would you then have to kill that exact mount, or would any mount do (could you match up any dead rider and mount to get a kill)?

Doesn't matter, its the number of models left on the table that counts.

You could say have a 20 WR army with a break of 10.
Dismount them all and you could end up with 40 models on the table but you still break when there are 10 left.

I think mounts dont count for this. It counts as slain once the rider is dead.

Atleast that is like that in ROTK rules... and i dont think they said anything else later on..

I though it was the whole model that counts as a causality ie. rider+mount...

As Mik said earlier, this is not the case for mounts with their own Attack value - page 35 ORB, last paragraph.
