Post subject:  Spear and pike support, model orientation

Sometimes the battlefield gets tight and there's barely room to let a spear or pike support in a straight line to the enemy model. I'm happy to give a few degrees leeway, but feel there should be roughly a straight line from the support model through the diameter of the enemy's base. However, some players seem to feel they can line up "support" at almost a right angle to the model they're supporting.

Is there a rule for this I'm missing somewhere, or is this just a matter of convention?

Well im not sure about you, but i always played that as long as the supporters base is touching the fighting model, it counts as supporting, this means i can get sometimes 3 models supporting 1, i'm only using RotK rule book though.

I don't think there is such a rule as long as bases are in touch.
in fact I think a warrior can support his fighting friend by sticking the spear in the face of the enemy from any position, not necessarily over his shoulder.

They don't have to be in a straight line support, I know it looks and feels all wrong but would be impossible to implement a rule that models do need to be in a straight line, lending to argumants over a model being 1' out or whatever.

Thanks for the clarifications, I guess it would be hard to have a rule for it.
