In the main rules manual, the siege section, it says that a siege engine rolls to hit using the shoot value of the crew - a 5+ given that they're Orcs. However, under the entry for the Mordor CAtapult, it says that the catapult will hit on a 4+. Me and my friend had a battle the other day, and solved the issue via a dice roll, but I want to know which is right. Thanks for your help! |

I have had this same problem. The 4+ in the profile may be an error (it may have been copied and pasted from the Battlecry Trebuchet profile), but I am not certain of this. I usually play as if it hits on a 5+, but it is really just a guess. |

The catapult can't shoot on itself, so I think you have to use the value of the orcs. A catapult is much harder to use then a bow, so I don't think the 4+ is right. |

it's stated in the catapult and trebuchet entries that these are exceptions for them from the normal siege weapons rule. they hit on 4+ instead of crew's 5+, may be due to big rock that makes it easier to land on target and proximate target it should hit. at least this is how I read it. |

There is no error and no confusion - just read the Catapults rules on page 147 for indirect fire - especially the first line! |

And does anyone know what it means when it dosen't kill battlefield targets outright? |

If you wound a battle field target, people, monsters, gates, with less than ten defence or wounds it looses all its wounds and so dies outright, though fate can prevent the original wound. Unless the rules for the siege engines says it doesn't kill battlefield targets outright. |

It does say that it is an exception, yes. But still, I am unsure. It seems that it should be a 4+ to me, because of a comparison with the Battlecry. It is only 20 points more, and it has the Wall Breaker rule (roll two dice and choose the highest while rolling to wound on Siege Targets). If it had this and the 4+ instead of 5+ shoot value, and the higher defence crewmen, it would seem a bit much for an extra 20 points. On an unrelated note - why are gates a Battlefield target? Its not as though they are all that small and move around all that much. |
