Post subject:  defending barriers, when you can't see over

I am making a palisade fort that has 3 1/2 cm tall walls and a small ledge 1 cm tall behind for men to stand on. Men and like sized things will be able to see over and thus will count as defending a barrier. But, what happens if there are goblins/dwarfs/hobbits that are lining the wall, but cannot see over it as they are too short and so cannot defend it, what will happen if an enemy goes into base contact with the wall to attack the defenders?

1. Do you do the fight like a normal barrier fight but the defender does not get the 50% that the opponents strike will hit the wall? (if a guy lining the wall is killed then he IS replaced by the attacker in this instance)

2. Do you totally ignore the barrier and fight like normal? (if a guy lining the wall is killed then he is NOT replaced by the attacker in this instance)

3. Do something else? :?

Please say where in the rulebook you got the reasoning for your answer. :)

Thanks

You make you pallisade so dwarves can defend it, maybe to see through the drenelations. Or just ignore the height problem or get the dwarves to stand on crates.

Hmm, thinking about it now I think as it clearly states that a figure has to be able to see over the barrier to defend it I will make a couple of 'crates' and stack them in the fort and count them as light objects. If you do not have a crate and thus cannot see over the barrier the fight is worked out like normal but if the attacker wins he DOES replace the defender. :) Thanks for the help.

It does sound rather wierd that a model could claim to defend a barrier which he/she can't even see over... Everyone ain't as skilled as Gimli! (besides he was abit warned by that a ladder suddenly smashed against the battlement)
