Post subject:  Beginner need some conversion advice

Hello everybody,

I will soon buy my first miniatures and I would like some advice for the conversions.
I would like a warg rider with banner and a lot of orc with pick or sword but without a shield.
For the warg rider with banner should I rather put a banner bearer on a warg or modify a warg rider?
In the case of orcs with pick or sword I am afraid of not being able to remove the shield without ruining the arm. How am I supposed to do it?

Thanks in advance

Warg rider - the simplest thing to do is take one with a pike and rotate the arm and put a banner on the pike. Another alternative is to cut off a sword, drill through the hand and use a brass rod or paper clip to use as a banner.

If I was to cut off a shield on one of the orcs, I would clip as close as possible to the arm and then use a sharp x-acto knife to shave the rest off. Then use liquid green stuff to add texture to the smooth area.

Depending on the pose you can sometimes change a two handed weapon or spear equipped mini down to one handed and avoid the issue with removing shields altogether.

Orcs are pretty rough looking so you can get away with some rough conversion work. A cheap EBay bits auction can go a long way towards new arms without shields. Consider in particular historical gaming bits from Warlord Games, Wargames Factory, Perry Miniatures. These tend to be on the same smaller end of 28mm that GW Orcs are.

Give it a try and be sure to post an image of your attempt - we'd be keen to see them.
