I think I would like to get a Balrog of Morgoth, and there are some rare sellers on ebay of the vanilla metal version that came out in 2003 if i'm not mistaken. I've seen that some people say that the plastic version is easier to glue and better overall.

What would be your advice ?

Thanks !

My personal preference has always been this metal version, I believe it came in a set with Gandalf and not on its own (or the other way round). It's metal. I prefer the metal version as it feels bulkier, like I'm getting more for my money. The plastic one is easier to build, but if you pin the metal one you should have no problems.

I have the plastic version. Very pleased with the quality of the dark grey plastic and all the parts fit very nicely.
While I prefer metal in general, the plastic in this case works better on the table. The plastic is easier to handle and doesn't tip over. I see people with metal balrogs (even fell beasts) and it's a pain to actually play with due to the weight.

A good point. On this, I used to use 'base weight beads'. Lots of little beads that you can glue to the bottom of bases for unsteady models, really useful for keeping models upright and secure in situations like this. You can usually pick up a big bag on eBay.

I bought the metal one because with small mini's I always prefered metal over plastic. But I have to say it comes with a bad side effect... You need (lots of) green stuff to fill up gaps.

The plastic ones are muuuuuuuuch easier to work with and in all honesty. If I'd ever buy myself a new Treebeard, Balrog or any other big guy; I'll go for plastic.

(While I would ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS prefer metal over finecast. Finecast is just HORRIBLE!)

I prefer plastic. Easy to keep, easy to paint, light weight and easy to glue
