Hi,

I was just wondering, Ents count as a soldiers don't they?
If so, what kind of hero do people use to include ents in their elven/men army. Same goes for eagles. I have seen an elven army being fielded with two eagles added, but could not figure out who is leading those eagles...

Yes ents and eagles count as warriors that need to be lead by a hero from the Wonderers in the Wild list. I believe that means you could use the Woses chief, Gwahir, or Treebeard to lead them since the other heroes are independent.

As to who you should have lead them if you have the points Treebeard or Gwahir are better than the basic versions anyhow so most people stop at just one of them if they want monsters. Gwahir was likely the one leading the eagles you saw since he's about the same points as a regular eagle and has a point of might for heroics. Aside form Gwahir the Wose chief is the only really options for leading troops as allies since Treebeard is a huge points sink. That's not to say Treebeard can't be used to lead just he is better of all monster armies.

You can have Bandoras leading ents aswell, as unthematic as it sounds as he is in the wanderer in the wilds list.

People also forget Bilbo can lead, as he is a hero of the wanderer of the wilds

Old Bilbo is extremely expensive for what he can actually do (because of the extra 40 points for having Sting and the Mithril coat included ). Since ents are expensive as they are, a cheaper hero would be better. Or a hero with more might.

there is a maximum of 5 full warbands using the wanderers list
Treebeard is only 70 points more than a normal ent with some impressive MWF stores.
also he is one of the 4 F8 models in the game placing him much higher in terms of fighting ability there are only 3 models in the game with a higher fight, Sauron Gilgalad at 9 and the Balrog at 10.
on the other hand the F7 from a normal ent is a fair bit more common these days, with 14 models at F7 (15 if you give Boromir the banner)
And all that is not taking into account that bolg and azog have alternate profiles, and the new elrond or even the randomness of Heroic striking in general.
I would use treebeard as such as an ent ally full stop, as if you calculate with Ghan and an ent together you only save 25 points

If you take ents you can only make 5 warbands, if you take eagles however you can make up to 8 warbands (those mentioned above + beorn, radagast and tauriel).
About treebeard, hes more than a regular ent, hes an ent not only with MWF stores, but also +1Fight +1C.
