For one, with the knight of umbar, how does this work...

You charge Beorn. Say he heroic strikes. Is your fight still just 8, or can you wait and declare that youre waiting till the combat actually happens to match him?

As for resisting magic....what ways are there to boost your roll

Say one wraith saps will on gandalf.

He rolls a 5. Then gandalf resists with two dice and gets 4 and 4.

Can gandalf use will to up it to 5, or only might?

In the FAQ it states that he takes the unaltered Values at the beginning of the fight.

Only might can boost the resist roll. The only instance where will can influence dice rolls is for courage tests

I would image that the knight can also heroic strike using his own might, however I don't have more than assumption to go on there.

He can indeed.
