Hi all I dont really get whats so good about elven blades. So they can be 1 handed or 2 handed and interchange each turn And they win drawn duel rolls on 1-4 (instead of 1-3) So whats so good about them? Thanks |

That's basically it. Gives you flexibility as all other 2H weapons cannot be used single handed. I love the duel roll modifier, very handy especially on heroes. They count as swords so you can also fient with them. |

Indeed they can, the 2H + 1H advantage used to be a much bigger deal before the Hobbit rules as Elven blades were the only weapon that could do this. However, they do still have a couple of advantages, they can feint when going two handed or one handed. If a model with a two handed axe wants to go one handed and you can't see a different weapon, then they can't make special strikes. That's a nice little boost for them. Also, the winning a duel on a 3-6 is particularly good and has more effect than you might think. They're particularly good when given to heroes, I played a game on Tuesday where Thorin (sans Orcrist) was trapped by Amdur (who counts as having an elven blade so wins fights on 1-4) and loads of Easterlings. They both called Heroic Strikes, maxed out at F10 and then Amdur rolled a 4 for the roll off (so won) and killed Thorin, all because he had an Elven Blade. I also find there's a psychological element to it - if you know you're going to fight a hero with an elven blade and there will be the fairly inevitable Heroic Strike off leading to tied Fight Value then the 33% chance of winning seems so much less than the 50% chance that it can seriously affect your plans. I've seen this happen both to my opponents and to me in the game mentioned above when I was trying to work out how to Bring down Amdur (clue - I didn't, I lost). Overall they're great for giving elves a bit of hitting power but particularly good for suddenly swinging 66% of tied fights in the elves' favour instead of 50%. |

I really do wish GW implemented a rule that switching between weapons (such as you normally have a 2H and want to use your 1H dagger for a turn instead) required a -1 on the Fight roll for the turn you switch. This would have still allowed people to switch while retaining the earlier (pre-One Ring) penalties. And would allow special weapons such as the Elf Blade to shine a little better. |

Do you guys know if Elves start with hand weapons? Or do you need to buy them either EB or spears? |
