Post subject: | Bow limits and mounted forces question |
I am not sure if this belongs in the beginners section or the rules questions, but as I am a beginner, I will post it here. I was looking at getting some rivendell knights to complement my elves. From what I understand they need to come in as an Allied faction as they fall under the "Elrond's Houshold" list in the PDF, not under any other elf lists. Also from my reading, allied contingents need to each respect the 1/3 Bow limit As the only troops in the Elronds Household list are Rivendell knights and all of the knights have bows, they would be at 100% bows therefore breaking the limit. Does this mean you cannot leagally add them as a warband? Or can you "choose" for 2/3 of them to drop their bows in order to include them? Or is there some special rule for mounted troops that I have not found? Or (most likely) there is something I have missed? I would imagine a similar problem if doing an all mounted riders of Rohan list (unless there is a rule in the kingdoms of men book, I dont have it) Any help would be appreciated Thanks |

They have a special rule where they don't count towards bow limits basically |

So in your above example of allying in Rivendel knights, Say you have 24 elves in your high elf army of Rivendel (am assuming that's your army ) You can therefore take 8 models with bows in that army. You then ally in Rivendel knights from Elrond's Household. Every knight you take has a bow, there is no limit applied. This is because they are exempt from the bow limit under the free peoples FAQ on the GW website. Riders of rohan also benefit from this so its easy to see why you'd think its a mounted archer thing but it currently only applies to riders of rohan and rivendel knights. Mirkwood sentinels and haradrim also have some exceptions to the bow limits. Hope that helps. |

It's in the hobbit FAQ, not the free peoples. Probably why you can't find it (Rivendell knights) |
