Post subject:  New Player looking for any help

Hello to everyone. I am a completely new player. I recently purchased the escape from goblin town box set and I'm a majority of the way through painting everything. I have watched a lot of videos on youtube of people playing the game (GBHL is a great channel) but playing the game is where I'm going to do most of my learning. So is there anybody in the West Midlands looking for a playing partner and perhaps a becoming a mentor? Also any help or pointers people can give me I'm all ears. Thanks

I'm down south, but welcome to the board, and the hobby in any case :D.

Welcome to the hobby, and the forum mate :) . There is are two opponent finder threads in the forum which may prove helpful to you:
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=26858
and this one: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=3428

the lists on the top are outdated; you can find more players by scrolling down the posts in these threads :) .

Yes GBHL is a great channel; I really enjoy their battle reports. Which army do you think of collecting?

Thanks guys,
I did look through the opponent finder threads but unfortunately could not find anybody too close. How do I go about approaching the guys who are in my area that I can travel to?

If I'm being honest it was probably the GBHL channel that made me take the plunge.

I was hoping to build a Rohan army or perhaps Isengard. I have already purchased some fighting Uruk hai.

What City/Town are you close to in the West Midlands?

Also keep an eye on the events thread or the GBHL facebook group. There are lots of people all over and for the tournaments or events most are willing to travel.
(also don't let the idea of 'tournament' put you off. We've had one so far this year with a lot of beginners all of who had a fun day of it, hell I've been in the game for years and I loved it :)

Nikrandonia, I am near Dudley. If you know it? Where are you?
Thanks Gondorian eventually I was hoping to get into the tournament scene but firstly I really need to learn the game more.

Ah I see. I am near Cheltenham. Would be a fairly long trip to even meet half way sadly :(

Yeah unfortunately that is quite a long way. I used to work in Evesham which is about half way between us but I don't anymore. Anybody else close looking for an apprentice :-D

If you ever get a free Thursday, Jamie and I would be happy to host you in Stockport and teach you the game :)

Absolutely fantastic to see another player getting involved thanks to the channel, this is what it's all about :D

Welcome buddy! And don't worry about not knowing the game at a tournament, everyone is happy to guide you through and teach you as you play, plus a fab opportunity to meet everyone :)
