Hey guys this is my first post so please don't hate on me too much and call me noob. I am currently collecting a Last Alliance army and was wondering what the bow limit for normal High Elf armies is. It could be normal but they're elves so I expect a reduced limit.
Also I'd like to see what you think of my army. It's a 750 pt force. This is what it contains so far:

Gil-Galad w/ shield
1 High Elven Banner Bearer
6 High Elves w/ swords
6 High Elves w/ spears
12 High Elves w/ bows
Elendil w/ shield
1 Numenorean Banner Bearer
6 Warriors of Numenor w/ swords
6 Warriors of Numenor w/ spears

I'm six points though.

First off welcome 8)

High elves have the standard bow limit (so 1/3 of all warriors). Also, your list is illegal under the current rules as each hero may only lead 12 warriors (aka a warband). Also, heroes can only lead troops from their respective army lists. So Elendil couldn't lead high elves, only numenor.

For example

Click to: Show
Gil-Galad
1 High Elven Banner Bearer
5 High Elves w/ swords
6 High Elves w/ spears

Elf Hero
12 High Elves w/ bows

Elendil
1 Numenorean Banner Bearer
5 Warriors of Numenor w/ swords
6 Warriors of Numenor w/ spears

Unfortunately this means that your original list will have to be modified majorly to make it legal as high elf heroes are quite expensive. If you haven't already, I'd recommend picking up the new hobbit rulebook and the sourcebook relevant to your army. In there you'll find everything you need to know.

And it is largely over the bow limit as the bow limit counts factions separately, so 1/3 of your hug elves can have bows an 1/3 of your numenorians, not 1/3 of the whole force.

Just noticed this, i think you need to remove your listed points values, GW is particular about that lol.

Edit: If you drop 5 High Elves with bows (the minimum needed to fit within the bow limits) you can add in a captain (basically, it might require more point maneuvering) or you could drop a banner to make room for a bigger hero like the twins.

Hello and welcome.

I like the idea of a Last Alliance themed army but like the others have said there are some rules other than just *spend 750pts on anything*. Do you have a copy of the rulebook or one of the sourcebooks for the game because a read of those will really help you understand but basically when writing a list you make warbands - a fighting unit of up to 12 warriors led by a hero, all of which must be from the same list within a sourcebook: eg Gil-Galad and 12 High Elves from the Eregion and Rivendell list. Each of the armies from individual lists must also not have more than 30% of the warriors armed with bows. This must be worked out for each list and not the army as a whole, eg you can have 8 High Elves without bows and 4 with bows but not 8 Warriors of Numenor and 4 High Elves with bows.

I'm not an expert and I really do need to stress that a copy of one of the sourcebooks (The Free Peoples or The Kingdoms of Men for this army) and the rulebook will answer all of your questions.

I'll give you a simple example list that works within the rules but probably isn't the best competitive list you could make. It's 748pts btw:

FORCES OF GOOD
Númenor
----
Warband 1 12/12
Elendil, High King of Gondor and Arnor
4 Warrior of Númenor with Bow;
3 Warrior of Númenor with Spear; Shield;
4 Warrior of Númenor with Shield;
1 Warrior of Númenor with Banner;
----
Warband 2 11/12
Isildur
3 Warrior of Númenor with Bow;
4 Warrior of Númenor with Spear; Shield;
4 Warrior of Númenor with Shield;
----
Eregion and Rivendell
----
Warband 3 12/12
Gil-galad
4 High Elf Warrior with Shield; Spear;
4 High Elf Warrior with Elf Bow;
4 High Elf Warrior with Elven Blade;

OK thanks guys. Here is my new plan for the army:

Elendil w/ shield
5 Numenor swords
6 Numenor spears
1 Banner

Gil-galad w/ shield
5 High Elf swords
6 High Elf spears
1 Banner Bearer

Elven Captain w/ shield
7 High Elven bows

Also in reply to JamesR, I can't put the twins in my army because they neither Eregion or The Army of The High King can ally with Rivendell or The Grey Company.

Actually in the new rules everyone can ally with everyone and the twins are in the rivendell army. Also your new list is still illegal, you have 1 too many high elf archers. Also may i recommend dropping one of the banners to get more elves and upgrade all the elves into kings guard (the kings guard are an upgrade for regular elf warriors that becomes available if Gil Galad is in your list).

I actually have exactly the right amount of archers... Warband 2 has 13 Elves without bows and Warband 3 has a captain without a bow so 14 Elves with out a bow so it makes a ratio of 1:3.
I've got The Legions of Middle Earth and it says you can only ally with certain factions. Do you know when these new rules came out. It would be so awesome if I could ally with anyone...
Thanks for the reply.

Heroes aren't factored into the bow limit calculation, not even in LoME.

The updated faction books with the warband rules came out over a year ago, maybe almost 2. Not sure exactly, but it was well before the Hobbit movie.

We can't really give that out, except in vague terms. They're a bit more expensive, with upgraded Fight and Courage.

No they are not, It upgrades to <some value> thats it kings guards are just another new elite elf unit,

If you have been around for a little while you'l find that elves back even in the rotk era(2004 ish) had <some value> as standard
back in the days when GilGalad was only <some value>

OK thanks for the help guys. This site is really friendly and helpful. I like it. I'll try and find some stuff on the Kings Guard and subtract 1 archer.
So in the "new" factions book it says you can ally with anyone as long as they are on the same side?

Yes, there's an intro to wabands in the front of each book and it explains it there.

The books are here: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/armySubUnitCats.jsp?catId=cat970018a&rootCatGameStyle=lotr

They're the latest, most up-to-datest, only-way-to-playest books and whether we like it or not they're essential for the most current rules and will answer almost all your questions. You'll need The Kingdoms of Men for your Numenorian warbands and The Free Peoples for your High Elven warbands.
