So, if I go to meet some friends and play at a local GW store, would the staff mind about houserules?
I know using non GW models or parts is a strict NO NO, butdo they mind houserules?

Thanks,
LordElrond

I'm not sure, but I can't imagine they'd like it. If there are other LotR customers they will get a false impression of the rules, or feel like GW doesn't know them.

That said, the odds of GW stuff being able to distinguish between a normal rule and a house rule is pretty slim...

You can always try, if GW doesn't agree they will say something about it.
Otherwise it's just fine.

Just turn up, use him, if the staff ask then just enthusiastically claim you are using a houseruled profile that everyone agreed upon, just as the sourcebook suggests you should do!

In the 1750 points game I played last week (report somewhere on this site) we had Gondor and Harad on one side against Moria. By the rules that's not allowed, but the store manager said as long as the opponent is happy I'm free to do whatever I want.

On the other hand, I've been disallowed from using Warhammer Spiders as LotR Giant Spiders in the past, so better check with the manager first.

That's because you can't use minis from another range for lotr, just not allowed for some reason. Anyone know why?

Thanks, I think I'll try

It's the terms of the licence with New Line Cinema. In your home games you can do what you want, but on GW premises they have to make sure that games licenced by New Line are played with miniatures licenced by New Line.

I thought this too, but then I saw that at the ToS tournament someone used a 40K ork (I think) to make an Azog.

They may be more lax if it's a conversion for an unreleased model, especially if it's in WH World where the only people would be hobbyists, not curious people who've just walked in to a GW for the first time.

It's no longer true.... I KEEP posting this and it's ONLY on the One Ring, lol.

You can mix and match freely with ANY GW miniatures now, but they're not allowed to be photographed by GW and (this is the bit I've forgotten) so may or may not be allowed to place in some events.

Wow that's a big step forward for gw

Are you sure?
I only ask because I'd rather not be beaten to death by the gw staff lol

To be honest, there arnt that many non LotR bits that look good on LotR models. Don't think I'm gonna be giving my WoMT bolters and space marine heads.

Mordheim?

40K goblin spider rider's spiders as lotr giant spiders. I've thought about doing this myself, as they are much cheaper than lotr giant spiders. Other than that most bits will be too big/not the correct era (laser guns) anyways.

The WotR rulebook explicitly states house rules are to be encouraged and used as often as you like.

LordElrond: I worked for them, I had to know these things. But, it's down to the discretion of the staff at the store (not by ruling, but because they can be expletives and kick you out to feel powerful). Mordheim is the skirmish version of Warhammer and encourages campaigns with experience to improve your models - VERY cool game.

SouthernDunedain: For the most part, I agree. The scale is often wrong. However, banners and instruments often look good etc.

theavenger001: You mean fantasy ;)

40K Space Wolves' Fenrisian Wolves apparently work well as Wargs.

theavenger001: Actually, 40k is the ONE place you will find orks, lol. Fantasy and LotR have orcs :P But we're getting off track ;)
