I'm a TLOTR SBG player since the black TFOTR rulebook.

I have too much models (but then again, never enough), and kept playing the game for some years.

These are the rulebooks I own:
- fellowship rulebook (softcover black one - 2001)
- two towers rulebook (softcover red one - 2002)
- return of the king rulebook (softcover blue one - 2003)
- one ring rulebook (hardcover blue one)

So first question, is this one ring rulebook still usable/still in use, or do I need to buy a hobbit rulebook?

I also own these sourcebooks (could have more, should check properly):
- shadow and flame (2003)
- siege of gondor (2004)
- battle of the pelennor fields (2004)
- khazad-dûm (2007)
- gondor in flames (2007)
- mordor (2008)

Second question, which ones of these old sourcebooks are still usable? I have read that GW released 5 new sourcebooks (including a new mordor one). Are the pointcosts still correct? Or do I really have to buy the new sourcebooks?

And last, I also own:
- legions of middle earth

Question, Is this book still the book you should use to build your armies? Or are there any new army composition rules in the new sourcebooks? The reason I ask is because this book doesn't seem to be available anymore at GW online.

Greets,
Jotie

The current compatible rules and source books are:

- The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey Rule Book
- Kingdoms of Men Source Book (Rohan, Gondor, Numenor, Arnor and Fiefdoms)
- The Free Peoples Source Book (Durins Folk, Loth Lorien, Rivendell and Eregion, Mirkwood, Wanderers in the Wild, White Council)
- The Fallen Realms Source Book (Isengard, Harad, Easterlings, Umbar)
- Mordor Source Book (Everything Mordor)
- Moria & Angmar Source Book (Moria Goblins, Spirits of Angmar)

These are the most updated versions of the rules yet. The Hobbit rulebook has new rules and also changes a few of the old rules as well so a big recommendation to have one of these. The new source books summarise all the army lists and are needed for older profiles as the The Hobbit Rule Book only contains profiles for Hobbit miniatures. New deployment rule for SBG is that 1 Hero + 12 or less warriors = 1 Warband. Keep this in mind when creating armies but all the newer source books explain this.

As for the older books and things you have, I suggest keeping them as some stuff like painting guides and terrain making are missing in the newer books. The legions of middle earth book is out of date and shouldn't be used to create armies due to out of date profiles and deployment rules.

Hope I answered your question :)

The One Rulebook is still fine for use if you don't mind a little outdated rule though you will need all the new source books to continue building your armies. :)

Thanks for these replies. 8)

In case I want to create a Dwarf army (so no worries about allies), do I only have to worry about:
- 1 hero + 12 warriors
or also still about:
- 1/3 archers?

Are there any other restrictions?

Is it btw, up to 12, or exactly 12. Or am I asking stuff here I'm not allowed (don't want to break any forum rules here)?

It's 1 hero + up to 12 warriors.
Yep, Dwarves still have the 33% bow rule.

If the other source books are as good as Shadow and flame (the one I have) then they are certainly worth keeping. Even though some of the stats and points values are changed now there is still great material in there.

I love your avatar by the way 8)

I agree and would say the same thing about the Ruin of Arnor
