How effective are the grey company going to be with the new rules?
I just love the look of them and their history...
I have a lot of Ranger models and some official Grey company metals and also some ranger of the north metals Im going to create my army with.
Are there any units or warbands you guys would suggest to add to my army?

Also, does anyone know of any non GW models that could be used???

Well, archery in general got nerfed with the new rules, so Grey Company will clearly be less effective.

While the GC will be less devastating than it used to be, I think it will still be very effective, due to the above-average overall fight and the surplus of might that will be present within the company along with the still highly efficient shooting.

As for non-grey company models that could be used, if you are simply playing friendly games, you could make use of ebob's English longbowmen.

How many versions of the same thing have they made now? Started with metal Rangers of The North right? Then they added the Dunedain models, and there's newer ROTN models now? Is that all of them?

Ive got metal Dunedain, metal rangers of the north, metal faramirs rangers and the plastic ones. I think thats them all right? Personally I love the ranger models the more the merrier for me!

What's confusing is that rotn and Dunidain are two different things seperated by armour, and the ability to take horses and spears, when they are, in theory one and the same. And to my knowledge the newer grey company models follow the ROTN stats.

Halbarad and Arathorn will be my combination for the lower points games but I hear Malbeth can be very useful. The elven twins and Aragorn are also available, I'll probably use the latter in higher points games.

Haha it's going to be tough playing each other with the same army considering you're down the road from me! Where in Manchester are you?

Down the line, I would like to build 500pt armies for most factions/themes... I very nearly considered an Umbar force to start with actually and that will probably be my first baddie army!

But, one step at a time. I've not even finished painting my first warband!

Altrincham pal, Have a look on the other thread Ive put my details up.
Am gonna trial run a few different captains and heroes with mine till i find the right balance.
Fortunatly Iv got tons of minis from when LOTR wargames started so Am kinda lucky in that sense I could field almost any army I reckon......

I unpacked all my old stuff and Iv found loads but I had One box that had all my best painted minis in it the ones I was most proud of and I cant find it for love nor money am gutted. I just hope it didnt get thrown away by mistake when we moved...

Am off sick at the min with the flu but normally I work in the daytime so most free timewould be evenings. Where are you planning on gaming?

Ah so not too far away then!

That's good you have a few armies, I really am getting started. Never been into the hobby or gaming but I'm a big Lord of the Rings fan, I love strategy games so why not try and combine the two together and give it a go. Need to find ways of relaxing so I'm not in work mode all the time, so willing to try anything!

Don't really have a plan in terms of when and where. Not sure whether I'll be heading into a GW to play to be honest, but might be interested if anyone was setting up a game elsewhere. Would even be happy to host a few people a weekend sometime and maybe get a board sorted for that.

But no plan as of yet!

Cool, Well Iv got a board somewhere Ill dig out also got "the realm of battle" GW modular board which comes in 6 2x2 segments but its not painted yet! Ill get on it this weekend! I bought it bout 2 years ago and Ive never had it out of the bag!
The GW battlemat looks like a good investment if you dont have a board, @ £20 you can turn any tabletop into a battlefield....
