Just wondering what rule books I would need if I wanted an elf army and a Moria army? :)

For Elves you need "The Free Peoples", for Moria you need "Moria and Angmar".

Thanks all :-D Could I use the smaller rulebook that comes with the starter pack?

Yes, but it has no profiles in it, so you would still need the other books.

But not the Hobbit book, unless you want to use Rivendell knights in your Elf force (Hobbit Goblins have profiles in the getting started booklet, and then use Lonely Knight's armybuilder).

The starter set has profiles for all the minis in the set within the scenario book but no points values.
