Hi, I recently got a paint set of Moria Goblins. I was thinking of probably expanding it for War of the Ring or something. I don't own any rulebooks or sourcebooks yet, so I don't know how to play. I was thinking of building an army of about 500 - 1000 points. Do you have any suggestions for it? I was thinking of probably getting some Ringwraiths to ally with it or maybe Lurtz or Vrashku. Thanks. |

Firstly, welcome to One Ring! 500pts is way too small for WotR, also if you played at that level you couldn't ally in Lurtz or Vrasku's Talons as you only have 125pts to spend on allies. Are you sure you don't want to do SBG first? You will need a lot more than 12 Goblins for a 750-1000pt WotR army, 12 goblins is only 1.5 companies. First off, by about 60 Goblins, preferably find the 24 boxes. You should also buy Durburz, and Druzhag (if WotR) or generic Shamans, and Ashrak (if SBG) Also buy your chosen rulebook, and if SBG, one or two of the new sourcebooks. A sample 1,000pt WotR army: Durburz Druzhag Moria Goblin Warband (6 companies) shields Moria Goblin Warband (6 companies) shields Moria Prowler Warband (6 companies) Moria Goblin Warband (3 companies) shortbows Moria Goblin Warband (3 companies) shortbows Warg Pack (3 companies) Warg Pack (3 companies) 3 Cave Trolls. |

Hey, thanks for the reply. I am planning on buying more Goblins along with some Prowlers. I was also thinking about getting Ashrak or Duburz however, I really want to add a Ringwraith to my army. Is that a good idea? I'm also having trouble with companies and formations. How many miniatures are actually needed to form a company? Do heroes count if you join them? Thanks. |

In WotR, adding a Ringwraith is pretty much always a good idea. Especially if it's Khamul. 8 infantry models = 1 company, a formation is any number of companies 1-3 or 1-9 or 1-6 or just 1. 2 cavalry models + 1 comapny, a formation is same as above. A monster is a company and a formation all to itself. A normal Hero such as a Captain, Shaman or a Hero in a Legendary formation eg Ugluk does count as 1 model in a formation, if they die, you are 1 less model. If it is an Epic Hero, then no. They do take the place of a normal model, but if they leave the formation or die, the model he/she displaced is returned and you haven't lost any models from the formation. Also, Ashrak, Groblog, Warg Maraders, Dwellers in the Dark and the Watcher n the Water have no profiles in WotR, only in SBG. |

Thank you so much. This really helped me. Right now, I'll just focus on buying and painting some Goblin Warriors. I'll probably then move on to a troll or some captains. Just one more question, would the weapons of my warriors affect the company they're in? For example, should all the warriors in one of my companies have the same weapon (bows, spears, etc.)? Or can I just randomly put my warriors anywhere even if they're mixed with other warriors wielding different weapons? |

Everyone in the company has to have the same weaponry. However i agree with Gothmog about sbg vs lotr, it's alot friendlier than wotr on a beginner. I'd also like to point out that sbg is A: More updated and thus has less flaws in the rules B: Much friendlier on the wallet, a 500 point army in sbg will cost 3 times less than a wotr one and you actually have more general control over your men because in sbg each model is an indivual force . |

I would suggest starting with sbg as you need much less models, + you kan get the begginers set wich includes 24 moria goblins and the rulebook. |

Welcome to the one ring! i agree, i think sbg is much better but also a better starting point. the mines of moria set is very good because it comes with a very nice rulebook, the whole fellowship, plenty of goblins and a cave troll. IMO the mines of moria book is much better than the official one because the stats/profiles are easy to find plus all that is only ten quid cheaper than the offial rulebook! |

As marsbar says every model in the same formation must be armed the same. however, spears are just hand wepons, so it would be fair to just put them in anywhere in the back ranks of formations that are armed with shields or shortbows. Also, if you want to know, you also have access to Stone Giants even though the don't have official models or SBG rules. |

Thank you so much guys for the help. I'll probably just collect and paint some models first. Anyways, if you're interested, this is where I'll be putting photos of my goblins. Thanks! |
