So ranger of the north or dunadan allow me to field four ranger of arnor and ignore bow limit but there independant characters so cant lead warbands. Am i correct? If so how the hell do you create a Grey company list? And while im on the subject of the grey company does Halbarad dunadan class as a dunadan for the purpose of ignoring bow limit? Its not clear at all. Thanks :)

Well that is just stupid.....How is it that GW have ruined the grey company yet given harad a 50% bow limit.

Can't speak for Harad, but I like the new GC, previously it was overkill. It's also easy to ally RotN with anyone if you're trying to fill up 25 points, which kind of suits their story.

Havent ruined it at all.....

Pretty simple to me.... same as it ever was 1 ranger of the north/dunadian per 4 rangers of arnor therefore its

Warband 1: Captain

Warband 2: Ranger of the north + 4 Rangers of Arnor

Warband 3: Ranger of the north + 4 Rangers of Arnor

Warband 4: Ranger of the north + 4 Rangers of Arnor

The only reason the book says they cant lead warbands is because they can only lead 4 Rangers of Arnor not 12..... Simples

No, independant heroes cannot lead warbands. It would be

Warband 1: Aragorn, 12 Rangers of Arnor
Warband 2: Ranger of the North
Warband 3: Ranger of the North
Warband 4: Ranger of the North

According to the wording of the rule that conclusion makes no sense. “4 rangers of arnor for each ranger of the north or dunedain it contains", so it means that you can do this:

Warband 1: Aragorn, 24 Rangers of Arnor
Warband 2: Ranger of the North
Warband 3: Ranger of the North
Warband 4: Ranger of the North
Warband 5: Ranger of the North
Warband 6: Ranger of the North
Warband 6: Ranger of the North

Which is also not in line with the war bands system, so the only plausible explanation is that they operate outside it as previously mentioned.

No, the 'it' refer to the allied contigent as a whole, it would be:

Warband 1: Aragorn, 12 Rangers of Arnor
Warband 2: Ranger of the North
Warband 3: Ranger of the North
Warband 4: Ranger of the North
Warband 5: Halbarad, 12 Rangers of Arnor
Warband 6: Ranger of the North
Warband 7: Ranger of the North
Warband 8: Ranger of the North

Agree with Gothmog completely- that's how I read it and it makes sense.

Though personally I've been taking Aragorn, Halbarad and then as many RotN as I can fit in. An army of heroes :D

I think it is clear. Gothmog's example is a fine example of how it works out

Also agree with Gothmog. As long as you take along enough RotN as independent heroes, you can have the 100% bow limit.

Can't see a problem, all you have to do is follow both the warband rules and the special Ranger rule together as shown by Gothmog.
