I don't know which Ringwraith I should add in my Cirith Ungol army. I have my eyes on the Shadow Lord, the Dark Marshal and the Knight of Umbar. Can you guys give me some pros and cons of each wraith and some basic strategies coz I have no idea which wraith i should have.

p.s this site needs a ringwraith smilies.

I'm guessing you mean SBG?

Depends a bit I guess on which kind of army you are fielding and which kind of army you are facing. The shadow lord is great for protecting massed hordes of troops from arrow fire - especially useful if your troops have low defense and if the enemy have lots of archers eg grey company, elves. With Cirith Ungol it would be very useful if you are using lots of uruk-hai which have low defense for Mordor.

If you are using a high defense army eg Morannon orcs, shadow lord probably isn't as vital. Dark Marshal is like a long-ranged banner so means you don't have to have a banner in your force - he basically boosts all your troops giving them a re-roll which is good in basically any situation. Knight of Umbar is a good hero killer because he can take stats of enemy model, meaning he can effectively transfix aragorn then charge and steal stats, attacking aragorn with 3 attacks instead of one.

Undying is great in combo with another wraith or spellcaster because he regains will from spells being cast nearby and won't die as easily so is a real spell-monster. I don't know too much about the other ringwraiths and to be honest, I'm speaking here mostly from theory than experience but that is what I have picked up from reading around.

Different wraiths are good for different situations but all ringwraiths are good at neutralising heroes. In this way, even a generic wraith is a good add and comparitively cheap. Of course the witch-king is a monster in combat if you give him the right wargear and a great spellcaster too, having more will than the average wraith. I suggest having a few different wraiths at your disposal and choose the one to use based on the troops you decide to field and troops you happen to be facing on the day. Experience will dictate the best option.

the tainted is great for taking on a force which uses heroes to win the battle, I think it doesnt allow troops to use a hero's actions if they are within 6" of him which is pretty handy!

I would advice you don't use the Betrayer or Khamul. The KoU, the Dark Marshal, the ShadowLord, the Dwimmerlaik, or the Witch-kiing with Criown of Morgul. The Undying is useful too, but you should take at least 2 other cheaper caster eg budget wraiths, shamans and barrow-wighs.

yea Betrayer's rule is sought of under-par unless u have a serpert horde army. and khamul's sorcery is terrible.
I am probably going to get the Knight of Umbar. I don't know the exact rule of the Dwimmerlaik because it doesn't say it in the Mordor sourcebook or Sauron's Sinister Service pdf.

I think you have to spend 2 points of might instead of the usual 1 if you are in 6" of the dwimmerlaik, not to sure though

Twice that range, only works on a roll of 4+ and works for Wil and Fate as well.

my fellow brethren I have converted glorfindel into the Knight of Umbar using nothing but a plastic Last Alliance model, metal Glorfindel and PVA glue.
NOT 1 STRIP GREEN STUFF USED!

Damn the dwimmerlaik seems like the perfect hero killer then lol, especially with the undying lol that would be like a pro team and it would own up like all the wizards imo.

Do not wholly discount taking two budget wraiths place of the a named Nazgul. With the simplified alliance rules and many more heros on the field, we may be seeing more of the Saruman The White/Legolas nightmares than ever before. The new structure means fewer troops, and every point has to count.

ShadowLord was the SBG favorite, it seems, but most Warband scenarios start enemy bands closer than ever. No more marching across the field for half the game, surviving the hail of arrows. Arrows are limited when shields clash---and they clash sooner now.
