I usually go for better 'trim' with my captains, see below;

As you can see, both models look very similar. Both in shiny silver armour with dark shields and black cloth.

The difference is in the helmet crest - I bronzed it a little to make the captain's helm more distinctive, and the bolts that hold his shield together are also highlighted gold. Finally, his base is a different colour - perhaps the most simple and obvious change you can make to have a model stand out amongst the crowd.

That's a really good paint job, subtle yet strikingly dashing.

Nice technique on the Minas Tirith Captain, I might do the same on mine :)

Cloaks are always an easy way to make captains stand out.

:-D This is the exact captain I have that prompted the question in the first place!

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I do have some of the metal captains but was looking for a further distinction to be able to pick them out from a distance (or a crowd)

I really appreciate the ideas here, I had not thought of a slightly different base colour and I may try my hand at modelling a cloak or two! Previously I have tried different weapons but they didn't seem to stand out enough.

Thank you once again everyone, I'll let you know how I go
