I believe that at the moment the license runs until 2017 for miniature production.

Yeh I would have thought so. It all falls under the same brand i guess. Some things from the Lotr range have and continue to go out of production but new models are being released under the Hobbit brand. If GW plan to release further model under the Lord of the Rings title before 2017 only they know.

No. It means that no more would be made. So they would continue selling it until they ran out of everything. Then no more would be made.

I have been doing a lot of post gw lotr research. There are a lot of minis which can be used. Reaper, dark sword (both heroic 28mm as opposed to gw's smaller scale), warlord, gripping beast, footsore minis (formerly musketeer), mithril, perry, west wind's arthurian 28mm (any romano-british range really) and ebob. I'm sure there are more too. As long as there are people to play the game, there will be inventive ways to make the army you want. What i would worry about most is obtaining the books so you have the profiles of the minis you want.

On that front I intend to keep my spreadsheet online long after GW abandons LOTR. So the profiles will still be available. The game rules however won't :(
