Hey guys,
First off, really neat forum. I've been reading a lot and since the game seems as if it's almost become a cult-following now (being from what I've read that it's evaporating in the U.S.), it's really nice to see an active community.
Here's my question- I left off at The Return Of The King expansion. So since I last played, I was using the RoTK rulebook. Now that I'm back, I see an entirely new game played with 'war bands?'
I don't understand, I loved the individual nature of the SBG. It almost seems like a 40k Apocalypse expansion (which I hated).
Can someone please explain if the old way of playing is dead? And what the new game is all about?
It's still basically the same. Warbands are a way of dividing troops into groups of no more than 12, each led by a hero, for deployment purposes, rather than one big mob. That's why you only get 12 troops in a box now.
aka naked profiteeringThere's new rules for deployment and extra rules for weapon types and monsters. I don't bother with much of it myself, as I just play on a rainy day with my kid brother. If you want to do tournaments or play in a club I'd brush up on it all. The Hobbit Escape from Goblin Town set has all the new rules, and all the new hobbit profiles (from film 1 mostly) are available as a PDF on the GW site.
