Thank you everyone for voting. My paint supplies are almost gone and I am thinking of changing brand, but needed recommendations -- reason for the poll. I do like the washes from Vallejo -- less odor than Quick shade (from Warlord?) and previous washes from GW stinks BAD in a weird way. All the paint brands in the poll are obtainable for me. |

GW/Citadel I wouldn't trust Humbrol, their glue is IMO rubbish. I have no idea whatTestor is, and I've heard vallejo is good though. |

Testor is an American brand I believe. I have used Humbrol enamel with my Napoloenics and they turned out rather nice. I have not used Humbrol acrylics though. Thanks for the advance warning. Do the new washes and medium paint (for base painting) smell bad? |

I've never noticed much stink from any of them (defective sense of smell), but that is a good point. I like Testor best, myself, though I do use some Citadel/GW colors. My personal favorite is Testor's Gunmetal. It's got a perfect balance of black, gray metal, and blue - I think it looks like the beaten lead coloring of the RotK orc armor. |

Thank you everyone for your replies and votes. I stopped in at a local GW recently to check out the new paints -- okay...wow...too many shades of the same color. I did purchase 3 bottles of the texture paint and used them already. No odor -- yeh! Although next time, I will stick to using an art medium call pumice gel -- comes in regular, coarse, and fine texture. I just mix the desired amount with some color and apply with an old brush or spread it on the base. Much better value for $ and more texture than GW as well. No decision on which paint supply yet for me. Thanks again for your suggestions. |

I have a large collection of paints that has grown organically over the past 10 years. I started using GW paints initially and then branched out into Vallejo when I started painting figures from other eras (WWII especially). Now I use three different paint companies and mix-and-match them as I see fit - GW, Vallejo and P3. The range of colours available from Vallejo is unbelievable and I like the Privateer Press P3 range for their strong pigments (except some greens). I use GW's metallic paints a lot, especially their silver-based colours (Mithril Silver, Boltgun Metal and Chainmail) and also their washes and inks (I still have some). But as everyone knows GW have changed their range recently and I haven't had a chance to try the new paints out yet, except a brief demo at the store a while ago. I like what they are trying to achieve, but don't like the mere 12ml you get in their bottles compared to the 19ml you get in other bottles from companies (for the same or less $$$). |

I think I will end up being in the same boat Dagorlad -- using multiple paint brands and mixing as needed. I paint various periods as well -- WWII, America's War of Independence, Napoleonics, Samurai and of course LOTR, but dreaming about ECW. Yes, I gave up shoes shopping so I have lots of time to play! |

I've always used GW but branched out to vallejo because I can only buy GW products straight from their stores which are too expensive. |

I have used most every thing. I prefer Plaid. I like Vallejo because they have the military colors I need. GW paint was the same product in a different bottle with a silly name. I do not know who manufactures GWs current line. I have not used it as far as I know. Quote: Testor is an American brand They make Plastic model kits paint and glue.Quote: Humbrol Lots of military colorsI use Woodland Scenic pigments mixed with Future floor wax and water for cast plaster. Note the glass jars. Never used Plaid? You probably have. http://www.plaidonline.com/internationa ... cator.aspx |

Okay, Vallejo it will be from now on. Yes, GW's latest price increase made up my decision for me. Thank you everyone for your helpful replies. This topic is now closed. |
