I missed this thread too. Really like the Wargs and Riders Viruk and I like the dark toned skin of the Goblins.
Really like the flooring on the base of Goblin 1 !

Thanks for the kind comments, much appreciated.
I'm still in two minds about how to paint the rim of the bases for gobbos. I think that painting it gray will help keep the army cohesive and make it look better on the table.
I plan on painting some dwarves too, and I suppose that I will choose brown for the rim of their bases when I finally get to paint them.
I'm also working on an article on painting goblins, though it will tak a while to finish it as I need to paint a lot of greensking to complete it (I want to show a few alternative colour schemes). Anyway, here's a sneak peek:

I love the goblin bases. Any tips on how you made those? I personally think the black looks better but I could live with the gray.

I finally decided to paint the rim gray. Here's how it looks like

Sorry about the low quality of the pic, but I wanted to take one quickly and didn't even bother to prepare the background

I love the basing - the variety makes them more interesting as some are on relatively intact flooring and others are on rubble. Very like Moria. The troll is a magnificent centrepiece to this - what is the grammatically correct collective noun for lots of goblins? A rabble? I can feel the trigger finger twitching even as I look at them. Excellent stuff and I look forward to the article.

I've recently bought metal dwarf warriors and khazad guard models and want to paint some before I return to goblins, troll and the rest of the Fellowship. I was thinking about what kind of base would be most suitable for these minis and came up with an idea of making them look like rough mountain terrain covered partially with snow (something like this).
Next thing that I have to decide on is what colour scheme to choose for the clothes. I don't think that the one proposed by GW (bright green with yellow pattern) is the best solution. I was considering purple, red or blue.

Any opinions and different pictures with suggested colour schemes for dwarves would be appreciated. :)

And in the meanwhile I started working on the plastic troll (great sculpt imho). I glued him in a different position (he's slightly more bent forward than normally), used GS (not much was needed since the parts fit almost perfectly) to fill the holes and prepared the base. Shame though that I run out of my chaos black spray while undercoating it

Hey Viruk, great work on those guys! For the Dwarves (I only got through the first page) I recommend a nice red. I've painted my Gimli in a dark brown colour scheme, then all but covered it up with a deep red on the leather portions of his armour. I don't always use GW paints, but rather some craft paints by various companies. They are a little "grainier" (as in they don't go on quite as smoothly as GW paints) but I like that quality in leather and cloth, as it makes the surface seem porous, as it should be. It also gives more of a matte finish, rather than the slight shine I've noticed GW paints to have.

Furthermore, on the topic of snow-covered bases, I've found that artificial sweetner works very well. It has a crystaline substance in it that ends up looking like ice crystals when sprinked over a base. The larger part of it is powdery, and looks great covering a mountain-themed base.

Hope I helped.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it is really appreciated. As I wrote, you'll have to wait for the article, probably until spring. I want to paint a lot of minis for it so it will be time-consuming. Unfortunately, with the forthcoming exam session I don't have too much free time

@Lord Hurin - I will take your suggestions into account when I'll start painting my dwarves. Thanks !

And now, for something slightly different :wink: A troll that I painted with my younger brother (12 years-old). I painted the armour and some parts of the skin (the face). He painted the rest (the skull on the base was his idea too). The mini is not yet finished, as there are still some parts that need to be painted, but I thought that it could be interesting. And one more thing - we used only two Citadel paints (Mithril silver and brown ink). The rest were the normal acrylic paints in tubes. 'Nuff said, here are the pics;

Time to ressurect this thread  I'm currently working on a quite large commission job (DOl Amroth mainly). I started with the new plastic Rangers. Using cork, plastic parts of "ruins" and some sand I prepared the bases. Here's how they look at this early stage.

Image,
2,3,4.

Comments and suggestions are always appreciated

Ooh, I just bought a box of plastic rangers recently, so I can't wait to see the changes you have in store for all these fellows. Looking great so far, keep it up! :)
